I'm sure who Corbyn chooses to have dinner with is one of the most pressing issues we face in the world today. Right up there with which beverages Abbott enjoys on a London train.

I agree with him.
I agree Trump should visit in a general sense but not a full of pomp State visit.
No way.

The Lib Dem leader Cable has also turned down the invite too.

One the better decisions of Cable too.

Meet Trump business like, fair enough, attend a meal/banquet in his honour.
No way, not a chance would I expect Party leaders other than Theresa May, to support that.

he is a petty vindictive oaf - a typical lefty so in love with his own ideas and faux morality that he is blinded by his hypocrasy and acrimonious demeanour

and lol, like Donald 1. knows who he is, 2. cares

The speaker declined too i believe.

I don't like Donald at all so I couldn't really care, but, for arguments sake, say the UK had another GE over the next couple of months and Corbyn became PM, how do people think that would then pan out for the UK, setting up trade deals and the "special" relationship then?

Trump can also be petty and vindictive, and the UK wouldnt come out on top of that .... particularly having isolated itself from being part of the EU

Corbyn just doesnt think past his protester roots, he isn't cut out to be a leader on the world stage. Simple

It's like they're saying on LBC, it's the "position" which has been invited - it's about POTUS, not Trump himself.

I just hope the protesters can respect the anniversary of D-Day and hold off.

I mean this is an entirely false comparison as he has stated clearly that he would be happy to meet Trump for political debate and discussion, he's just opposed to him being thrown a lavish state red carpet banquet.

Until Corbyn expresses a desire to hold a lavish state visit for Hamas or the IRA it's not a direct comparison.

Being OK with the Chinese president (when China is still guilty of countless human rights violations, rampant censorship, etc) is a little hypocritical, however.

Well any trade deals with the USA are also likely to take years to finalise.
Trump may not even be there in a couple of years time.

The overtures to the present government from Trump and the other politicians in the USA seem to be developing conditions that haven't been acceptable to the UK before.

Corbyn has always said he'll deal and meet with Trump on a business level.
That's fine by me.

Hopefully however Trump is gone in a couple of years from office.
That could change most things for the better.

We all know how petulant Trump is. To snub him personally effectively destroys any future relationship the 2 could have. It's not really up to Corbyn to pick and choose when to snub him and when to talk. It doesn't work that way, particularly when negotiating from a place of weakness.

How did we end up in this position of weakness? I thought Brexit was the answer to all of our prayers?

It isn't an insult to Trump, he won't care, it's an insult to the American people whom elected him as their President.

I think it's more of an insult to those who were at D-Day than anything else, as the anniversary is the purpose of his visit.

If you'd have polled the British people (right, left, and centre) before Trump was elected, what they thought of Americans, then the overall opinions would have been mixed to say the least, but since Trump we must all worry about being more subservient.
