Default Debatable topic: commercial breaks on tv

i find it annoying here, we have commercial breaks every 5 minutes on our dutch channels, that is for me a reason i go to other country's channels such as BBC, or german tv whose commercials seem lesser annoying for me

but how does everyone else think of commercial breaks, and (since i don't have the ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 on my tv) how long do commercials take there, and does anyone else find it annoying?

I prefer to watch stuff on BBC so it's uninterrupted. And I tend to watch a lot of films and box sets. I do watch ITV sometimes and I just put up with the ads.

Adverts are every 15 mins in the UK and last 3-4 minutes

I normally just put up with ads on TV, they only last 3-4 mins. If it’s on YouTube I find it more annoying, for example if I have a song mix playing and then it just cuts to an ad.

Yeah if I’m watching something on a channel with adverts, I’ll record it and start watching on a 20-ish minute delay. It just means I get to skip the adverts, but I’m not too far behind everyone else watching.

I only ever watch on the internet so don't have to deal with ads. I remember when we went on holiday to America when I was a teen the ads really made me rage as they seemed to be every 5 mins and for like 15 mins at a time

It's annoying, but it's how the channels and production companies make money, so it's a necessary evil unless every channel gets BBC style funding or becomes pay-per-view.

Endless recapping in programmes gets on my nerves though

Gahh, it is irritating when shows are bookended with "last time" and "next time" ... I understand reminding the audience of what's happened and whetting their appetite, but still ...

Oh yeah that too. I’ll leave a longer delay for talent show results and things like that because from the half hour show I’m only bothered about the guest performer and the result - not 20 minutes of performance recaps and app downlold prompts

apparently commercials are necessary for the channels to get their money

without them, they had to axe many more tv shows

If you record your shows
you can Fast Forward the ads.

i don't record shows such as the voice, since in liveshows i want to vote

but between ads i can at least check the football scores here, from our dutch second league who are Always on a Friday, so handy to do in a commercial break
