Default Accepted a job offer but now I have a new offer so what do I do?

Basically when you leave uni you just apply for loads of jobs because you don't hear back from 90% of them. So I had a job interview a few weeks back and I got the job. That job was condition on passing pre-screening checks and is supposed to start next week.

However after I accepted that job, I got contacted about another job interview, for a company I was more excited about, work from home, better pay etc... Just got a job offer. But now what do I do because I'm stuck between the two.

Pro's for Job A: Respectable company, office work (meet new people), training provided near home, 10 minute walk from my house, okay benefits, £18k a year.

Cons for Job A: Not great pay, on the phone all day (dry mouth)

Pro's for Job B: Working from home, great benefits, exciting new company, varied tasks not just on the phone, £22k a year.

Cons for Job B: Training away from home for a couple of weeks, work from home might be isolating, startup company that might fail.

Help me!

...working from home is something that doesn’t suit everyone...it demands huge self discipline...is it something you feel would suit you...?...and you also wouldn’t have the social side of getting to know work colleagues and working in a team environment...

I know, but I have been at uni for four years and worked from home 80% of the time although I procrastinated a lot but if im getting paid for something it's a different story. I will be working with people in the remote job but it will be through online chat and video calls, they do have some socials etc... but I could end up not liking anyone from the office job so that might not even be a good thing?

You tell the first job that you thank them for their time and are so grateful for the opportunity but something that better suits your career goals has come up and it’s too good to miss.

Any respectable company will accept that. If they don’t then you’ve had a lucky escape.

That firewire said - tell the one you decide against that you appreciate the opportunity but something more suitable has come up.

I'd say at this stage in your life and career there aren't any wrong choices. You don't have a nuclear family to support... no mortgage... nothing weighing you down into one choice over the other. If you are more intrigued by the start up... go for it! If the company fails... it is still a great experience for you and will still add to your CV.

Yeah that sounds good. At least they haven't started training me so it's not like I wasted their time.

Have you checked them both out on Glassdoor? Its has employee reviews etc and is quite a good way to see if what they sell at interview is what their staff say.

Do you believe in concept of the start up?' If so, as Mokka said, at this stage in your career, you have nothing to lose.

Go with your gut

Yeah thanks, I mean I am in debt and do have a dog who I need to put through behavioural school but apart from that. I do like the finer things in life!

If employees do feel strongly enough to post on there, its usually a good.indication.

What industry is it (if you don't mind.me asking). I work in Recruitment and know most businesses in Manchester so may be able to shed more.light on the company(or know someone who can), if you want me to do any digging for you.

Personally, I would go with Job B. I understand these situations are difficult, having been in them myself they can be quite mind-numbing. The best advice I could give, and I know this is your future so take it with a pinch of salt, just don't think too much into it. No matter what option you take, there will be pros and cons to both. It's fantastic you're in this position, so well done and make sure to take things easy and be kind to yourself.
