The environment is something everyone should be shouting about. Why does it take a girl with braids and Asperger's speaking in her second language to get world leaders to address it?

I wish there were more like her, especially compared to idiots who think blocking roads and flying drones is going to help their cause.

What exactly are we supposed to be shouting?

Are we to walk around with sandwich boards saying "The end is nigh" strapped to us? Because I don't fancy doing that.

God knows. I come from basically everything from a conservationist viewpoint - stop knocking trees down, keep our farms and green spaces intact, etc.

Respect is earned and you don't earn respect by ****ing over future generations for money. She has every right to drag the world leaders, the science is there and it's irrefutable but there's too many deeply stupid people in positions of power and those that support them who will believe in fairy tales before they believe in science that speaks an uncomfortable truth.

Age does not bring wisdom and you should never respect scum just because they are old.

People seem to forget that when the phrase "respect your elders" was first used, life expectancy was around 35 years old. By those definitions, the young lady is middle aged.

Fox News has apologized after a guest criticized the teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg as a “mentally ill Swedish child”.

The right wing continue to act like a bigger child than the child they're talking about.

For some reason the kid pushes rightwing nutters' buttons
Heres another example

The channel has not commented on Laura Ingraham’s attack on Thunberg.

Ingraham used her show The Ingraham Angle to suggest, incorrectly, that Thunberg wanted people to “cede control of our economy, our way of life, our way of transport, how many children you want to have, and if we don’t go along, we will be punished by our own children.

“Does anyone else find that chilling?” Ingraham said.

“I can’t wait for Stephen King’s sequel, Children of the Climate.”

King’s fictional story The Children of the Corn focuses on a group of children in a remote town who believe anyone over the age of 19 should be killed.

Curtis Ingraham, Laura Ingraham’s brother, swiftly criticized his sister, suggesting that her rightwing pronouncements were motivated by financial gain.

He said: “Clearly my sister’s paycheck is more important than the world her three adopted kids will inherit.

“I can no longer apologize for a sibling who I no longer recognize. I can and will continue to call out the monstrous behavior and the bully commentary born out of anger.”

It's fascinating, really, being alive in what's most likely the last few hundred years of humanity. I think fighting for the environment is noble... Sadly I also think its ultimately pointless.

There are too many of us. Too many humans. We can't continue to exist at this level without destroying the planet. No amount of campaigning nor environmental initiatives will change that.

Either there's a massive drop in human population, or the planet dies within the next few centuries. Pick one. There is no secret option number 3.

I think the only answer to climate change is new technology.

The population is only going to increase, and as poorer countries become more developed they output more CO2.

People in the richer countries don't want to hurt their economies or radically alter their way of life, and we don't want to put a halt to human progress.

New technology that reduces carbon emissions, and adapting to change is the only realistic path to take, in my opinion.

I agree with that, but when the Oil companies control the dialogue (by paying for politicians), then it's nigh on impossible.

The technology wouldn't be available, affordable or desirable where its needed - in the emerging industrial economies with rocketing populations. It's a sticking plaster on your skinned elbow when you have two broken legs.

Technology causes climate change imo...I have no facts, I have no proof...but the heat increase compared to the consumption of stuff that causes global warmer don't match up over the years.....imo...the only difference to the atmosphere is the amount of mobile phone data being pumped about. ...

But I have no proof, but I will stand by that thought until I'm dead.

True.
We have to reconcile ourselves to some warming.
Population is set to reach 11 billion and stabilize and drop very slowly

New technologies are key. On the plus side, if invested and supported they could lead to economic boom I'm told.

In the meantime we must do what we can to shore up coastlines, introduce more sustainable agriculture, plant trees and rewild some land, ban single use plastic, maybe use non recyclable waste to build artificial islands if technology allows
And more.

Would people be prepared to give up their phone and Internet if scientists were saying that is the cause?

A choice between saving the Planet or living the rest of your days with Internet access?

Yes everyone needs Free Solar panels fitted
plugged into a New home and the National Grid.

China has Massive Zones of nothing but solar,
under one was a pig farm.
But Of Course China also now has Massive Coal Burners
that cancel all that good massive solar future
