The announcement will be made by party leader Jeremy Corbyn, who plans to pay for the scheme by taxing multinational technology firms such as Amazon, Facebook and Google.

Rapidly-advancing technology actually means this should be relatively feasible, it's probably coming eventually anyway tbh. Most big cities run free WiFi networks these days.

If Corporations and the 1% paid what they actually owed then goals like this would be highly attainable.

Sounds great in theory but in practise how would it work, I would imagine it would be quite basic and probably wouldn’t work half the time? not too sure about this one particularly if you work from home and are relying on a half decent speed

hasn't BoJo also pledged towards free wifi by 2025? I'm sure I read that yesterday morning.

So they are going to part nationalise BT to do this?

the only way they could do it was by nationalising Open Reach which is the company that provides the infrastructure for broadband throughout the country, and it has already been split off from BT so that it is competitive to all the broadband providers. Nationalising it would mean the end to it being competitive, and without competition there is no drive for innovation
It's a flawed proposal, its a sound bite, nothing more. lets also not forget all the existing broadband providers that would see their business disappear over night. Last edited by bitontheslide; 15-11-2019 at 06:51 AM. |

They must think we are all stupid, lol, getting taxes from Amazon and others like them is not that easy, the way they are structured makes that very difficult, so it will take 10 years when we really should have faster broadband here already, so imo more empty promises
