It's getting panned pretty badly ... I haven't seen it yet so I'll reserve judgement.

I enjoyed it but I thought the first one was better. Luke preferred this one though

Well it's not brilliant by any means, especially compared to the first one. It's better than "just okay", and obviously the best comicbook movie of 2020, which isn't saying much, aha

I thought it was pretty bad and mostly because the villain (and his power) is terrible for a film.

While when it comes to comics I'm a "DC fanboy", I don't really know much of Wonder Woman when she's not in the League. It took me ages to get over how Bats and Supes were portrayed in the Snyderverse, aha. But I don't read Shazam or Wonder Woman, and I loved both of their first films.
The Birds of Prey comics (by Chuck Dixon and then Gail Simone) were so good that I don't think I'll ever "forgive" that crappy movie tbh. It should have been like a female-led cross between Ocean's Eleven and John Wick, with the team being led by a woman in a wheelchair. I'm not usually fussed either way about representation in movies, but Babs Gordon as Oracle is awesome. |

It has issues that become more apparent as time goes by but I enjoyed it. It's very different to the first film, the first film felt more modern (despite being set in WW1) while this one feels a lot more like Richard Donner's Superman. It's not a bad thing but the difference can be a little jarring.

The casting of Kristen Wiig was odd from the start.

They rushed Cheetah, Kristin was a good Barbara and they should have considered keeping her as Barbara for this film and then doing the whole Cheetah thing in WW3. The only reason she becomes Cheetah is so that Diana has someone to fight in the third act, which is a waste.

I have to wonder what the people panning the movie are expecting? It's just another (should-be) summer blockbuster adventure popcorn movie, it doesn't need to be anything it isn't.
Sure, it's not Shazam levels of good, but nor is it Birds of Prey levels of bad. But it does its job, that's all that matters. |
