Any sharp trends (LGBTQ+ equality and the rest) you’ve noticed across the past ten years that give the 2010s a more distinct tone than the first decade of this century?

I feel like the 10s were the least defined tbh, everything seemed to be a throwback to the 90s/00s

2009 felt worlds apart from 2000 compared to 2019 and 2010 so I'd say no.

You’re right. A year like 2009 can’t be compared to a year like 2001. That’s what I meant about the 2010s possibly having a more defined feel that stretched through the decade with only a few changes.

Maybe it’s because the 10s were my teen years but 2019 for example to me feels a very different time to even 2014. I can’t really judge I suppose as the 00s were my childhood so I don’t remember the early 00s at all really, only the late 00s. I’d say last decade was the social media age (I know we had Facebook and Twitter pre 2010), it felt around 2014 I’d say when it blew up and platforms like Snapchat and Instagram took over.

The youngins don't understand just how much technology (and more) changed from the early to late 2000's I wonder if there were as many big changes through a decade in decades past... but now it's just slightly updated iPhone's and tablets and video games throughout the 10's

I think social media being so prevalent the entire decade made it feel more cohesive as a decade, whereas the 2000s were a huge gulf between the finish and end with the advent of Facebook, the change to how we consume music, film etc.
The economic crisis in 2008 as well pretty much only took effect at the turn of the new decade so whatever effects resulted of that, pretty much defined the last decade. Politically the 2010s were completely unique as well. But I am easily able to attribute unique genres and trends and nostalgia to either decade tbh.
