...I had no idea this was apparently a ‘trend’ with parents who like to prank their children...if it’s true, it’s appalling....

“TikTok I need your help,” Velasquez said in a video shared on her social media accounts. “This trend where you are pretending to FaceTime someone who is either disabled or is a baby or just some crazy mugshot and you’re showing it to someone to get their reaction to saying, ‘Oh hey, talk to this person’ just to get a quick laugh, this is not funny. This is not a joke.”

She went on to explain that a mother had used her photo to prank a child into thinking that Velasquez would be his teacher for the upcoming school year. “He had a scared reaction on his face,” Velasquez said. “If you are an adult who has a young human in your life, please do not teach them that being scared of someone who does not look like them is okay. Please, everything that these kids need to know about having empathy and being kind to one another starts at home.”

The trend that became popular in late July shows parents recording a fake FaceTime with someone who they claim to be their child’s new teacher in an effort to capture the kid’s response. Velasquez tells Yahoo Life that since seeing it for the first time, she had a feeling she would become involved.

“I knew in my gut my photo was going to be used,” she says. “After dealing with things like this for a while now, I can sense when this might happen.”

Oh I hadn't heard of that either, how horrible. Basically lets mock the disabled person and make out they are monsters. I really feel for that woman who made video, imagine seeing someone do that with your image. Oliver is not wrong, social media can really bring out the worst in people

And its not about scaring the kids its about their reactions, some are really nice where the kid acts all normal.

Its a random picture of someone, shown to incite a persons initial reaction for comedy.
The picture could be edited.
The picture could be someone not disabled pulling an ugly face.
The picture could be someone hot.
The picture could be a gorilla.

Its not about the person being disabled or not.
Its about getting someones initial reaction to a picture.

People outraged by this are just looking for issues to complain about.

I've never seen one with her in, I think she might just be jumping on the bandwagon and having a good old cry just for attention.

If this is true then she does have a right to be upset about it, but i think it would be more beneficial for herself to learn to accept who she is and not let things like this affect her so much. DON'T POST ANYTHING ONLINE IF YOU CANNOT HANDLE PEOPLE MAKING FUN OF IT.

From what i watch of her crying, about 10 seconds or so, i got the impression that it was not healthy for her own mental health to be making such videos and have people sympathise with her. and build it up into even more of an issue that it actually is.

Cold? maybe. but she is causing her own pain, she needs to log off the internet, its not healthy environment for her.

People are always going to laugh, and someone can always find a reason to get upset about why they are laughing. Its human nature.

I mean parents should, both in the real world and on line teach their kids not to mock or be afraid of disabled people, so I totally disagree with your point of view on this

Imagine how much different these videos would be if the parents immediately called the kids out on the reactions?

I mean, apart from the kid who said "Dad! She's hot!" That's just good manners.
