Yeah that's a point I suppose, so a lazy joke really, on a stage that big every joke should be researched for things like that. Still doesn't excuse Will hitting him though

Yeah to be honest I DIDN'T KNOW either that she had alopecia, as people change their hairstyles all the time .

For me that makes it more serious and honestly, i don't think its about standing up for family either. He basically lets his wife do her own thing in the relationship department and i'm sure there will be a long line of disgruntled ex flings that have been less than pleasant over the years. So again, what made the oscars the event that made him tip over the edge? My take is that he is typically an angry man and he puts on a front that he is this nice guy that loves everyone and he has just been found out for who he really is
Maybe so, talk about bad timing for him though, he really tarnished a night that should have been one his best and he tarnished it for the Williams family too

Yeah sadly this has now become more about Will Smith's anger & Chris Rock's silly joke , and less about the ACTUAL MOVIES/OSCAR NOMINATIONS/WINS.

I' still curious about his movie King Richard though.

It's quite surreal, they had a very public relationship, and we're open and honest about EVERY aspect of their marriage. Jadas name was in everyone's mouth as people discussed the Smith family at length.

Why suddenly is she not allowed to be spoken about?..

The more time passes the more shocking this is. The fact that he just got up on stage walked up to him and slapped him lol it’s just ridiculous

Kizzy it's not a case of she "can't" be spoken about, it's the fact Chris Rock made a silly joke about her hair loss. But I don't think he knew about her alopecia.

Also it turns out there's a history ,and back in 2016 he made a dig about Jada then aswell.

Oh fgs though that isn't really a "history " that was 1 joke a comedian made 8 years ago and again a very mild joke

Chris Rock is a Comedian, why can't people just leave them alone rather than acting offended all of the time? I get that Will Smith probably thinks that he was being malicious, but I just think that Chris Rock was trying to do "edgy" humour and it's backfired on him.

Imo Will Smith needs to grow a thicker skin as celebrities get mocked all of the time by Comedians, or they used to anyway.

iirc, on one of her podcasts Jada has said that Chris Rock has been a problem within the Smith family for a long time, so there’s already personal beef embedded in the situation and I’m sorry, but there is a very big difference between making fun of people for the things they do and say and their illnesses that they have no control over, should Will have slapped him? Obviously not, it was ridiculously over the top, however, I don’t buy into the he shouldn’t have been offended narrative, when a joke is aimed at a specific person for a specific uncontrollable situation, people have the right to be offended if it offends them, since when is people having feelings a bad thing? Is everyone supposed to be heartless robots these days or?

I suppose it depends on if Chris Rock was really joking or not for me.

I do feel like people get offended at all sorts of Comedy nowadays though, I mean if Will Smith thinks Chris Rock was mean to his Wife how would he feel if someone like Frankie Boyle made a joke about his Wife? Because no doubt it'd be more offensive.

But some 'jokes' just aren't funny , and Frankie Boyle just seems to enjoy offending people. His joke about Harvey Price was mean spirited and cruel.

I know humour is subjective , and there's alot of boundary pushing going on . But it seems there's beef between the Smith's & Rock by the looks of it. And even when people don't react with violence,we can still see when they hate a joke made about them. People are free to feel how they want but it's how they react to it.

Perfect example is Seth MacFarlane who did a juvenile song about all the actresses 'breasts ' he'd seen on screen, they were all in the audience looking unimpressed.

Smith should have just told Rock that his wife has alopecia and that it's not fair to make jokes about her,and then left it at that . Or better still he could have roasted him back . Instead of resorting to getting physical & angry. It's ashame really.

I get not liking certain jokes, I'm sure we all have jokes that cross the line for us.

I just feel that some people nowadays take Will Smith's approach where it becomes a big drama rather than calmly just saying that the joke wasn't for him.

It's opinion's like yours that makes it look like it may have been a set-up with the motive of pushing on with the cancel culture agenda, by trying to turn this act of violence on to being the victims fault, in this
case the comedians fault.

Cancel comedians. We don't want people like Ricky Gervais roasting us privliged people.
