Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made Gareth Southgate his No.1 choice to replace Erik ten Hag as Manchester United boss this summer.

And United investor Ratcliffe is growing increasingly confident of being able to lure the England boss to Old Trafford. His contract runs out in December and the FA are desperate to get him to sign a new one.

But he has refused to discuss his future until after Euro 2024 in Germany. It would cost Ratcliffe around £800,000 in compensation for Southgate - and he would like a decision from him sooner rather than later, so he can plan for next season and beyond.

Ratcliffe and INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford have consulted some of United’s former greats about who should replace Ten Hag. And the overwhelming choice was Southgate.

Southgate also has the backing of some of United’s current players - and incoming director of football Dan Ashworth. Southgate has a close relationship with Ashworth following their time together at the FA, with the latter being a huge supporter of the 53-year-old.

--------------------------------

This cannot be real

Thinking about it, Southgate probably has the connections for a new old trafford stadium

I think he'll do good.

I mean if he can turn England around from the disgrace that lost to Iceland, into a decent side, then he can get Man Utd back on track.

Flaming hell !!

Load of fuss about Havertz

The panel is suggesting that Havertz should have been sent off for simulation …

Simulation happens about 20 times each game … why on earth highlight this instance !

They didn’t say anything about few weeks ago when Coufal made two RED card assaults on one player ( young winger ) to never even got a yellow ! !

The poor guy assaulted … went on his Twitter X account afterwards and said “ what the hell was happening ? “

Even Roy Keane said one was a red card !

The ‘committee’ also decided that the Docu assault on Mac Allister wasn’t a penalty !!

FFS
Jesus it was dangerously high plus he led with his studs !!

Everyone agreed that it wasn’t deliberate but a foul can be accidental.

The vast majority said that anywhere else on the field then it would be a red card or yellow at best

Mmmm the thick plottens !

The rumours are hotting up as regards Southgate for ManU !

I didn’t know that he’d worked with Jim Radcliffe in the past and that they’re been good friends for 20 years..

So glad we're looking at Simone Inzaghi, historically Italians do quite well at Chelsea. And he's basically already won Serie A with Inter this season, think they're 15 points clear. Feel like he'll add some stability.

i think by this time last season 10+ PL managers had been sacked, so the summer is going to be great

Newcastle United defender Sven Botman is expected to be out for "six to nine months" after a scan revealed he needs surgery on a knee injury.

The Dutchman injured his anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday's FA Cup defeat at Manchester City and had to be substituted late on.

The 24-year-old centre-back will have surgery next week.

Fabulous breaking news !!

The two Prem giants ( ManC and Chelski ) have effectively been told they could face the ultimate sanction - by the Commission that deducted Nottingham Forest four points this week.

In their 52-page written reasons, Robert Glancy KC, sports law specialist Mark Hovell and accountancy expert Steve Holt explain why they came to the Forest judgement and put the City Ground club’s £34.5m breach of Profitability and Sustainability Rules in context.

They point to the unlimited sanctions available in any case, “ranging from a warning through to expulsion from the Premier League”.

The Commission added: “Where a PSR breach is 'minor', then it will be for other Commissions to determine if any points deduction is necessary, appropriate or proportionate

“But if the breach is properly described as 'major' then it may be the case that even a very severe sanction such as expulsion is more appropriate.”
The scale of the allegations against City and the Chelsea admissions suggest both cases would fit the “major” category IF they are proven.”

The Man Utd fans on here are conspicuously silent. What do they think of this great news.

In all seriousness, I hope this is not true cuz I do like Man Utd. They have produced two of the best teams I've ever seen in the 99 and 07 teams. Controversial but I think the 2007 team was better than the 1999 team. Please Sir Jim do not inflict Southgate on Man Utd.

I think Southgate will surprise people.

I honestly don't think it's a Blues hiring Rooney moment at all, but a Leicester hiring Ranieri moment.

Just been watching that YouTube show with Ian Wright , Carra and Roy Keane

Discussing Antony being moved to left back and being pizzed about it ..

Ian Wright was saying that Steve Coppell used to make players play out of position even if they were uncomfortable …

Quick as a flash Roy Keane said “ yeah .. we played Gary Neville at right back “
