Apparently it’s because it’s a franchise .,

there is no legal obligation for a retailer to accept cash in the uk, just like there is no legal obligation on them to accept cards

If you want to use cash, go to a place which accepts cash, I personally very rarely use cash, so I won’t use shops that don’t accept cards, it’s not some massive conspiracy to take the rights of cash users away

In my view.
The Karen energy in this post is hilarious. It’s a cashless store. Cashless. Cash LESS.

I mean it’s pretty self explanatory.

thats all fine and dandy if you never step out of your neighbourhood and know who takes what, we went at Whitechapel hospital a few years ago and had no cash on us and the restaurant only took cash and there were no cash points in the hospital

I think any business which involves service to the public should take cash for as long as it's legal tender in this Country..

I rarely use cash myself but know of so many particularly elderly who still wish to deal only with cash.
It's wrong they cannot.

Plus MY OWN point is there shouldn't be cashless business outlets.
Nor should they be allowed to be cashless either.
By law

The choice for either should always be there.
That's MY view.
It's not yours so fair enough.

I can say that most gamblers hate not using cash. It shows them how much they're spending if there's a paper trail .

Also, lenders (such as for mortgages) don't like to see large-scale gambling on a bank statement, for obvious reason.

And of course you have the tradies dodging their taxes. Can't do that with an electronic trail.

Alot of buskers have both now, generally they ask for 2.00 on contactless and then have a hat for change

I imagine it's pretty much essential to make any money at this point... I don't know many people who carry cash and even fewer who carry spare change. I keep £50 in my wallet for emergencies (but I'm not giving a busker a tenner ) and a pound coin in the car for places that still have "coin locks" on their trolleys (another pet peeve of mine ) and that's it. I also have a card in the car for one of those random online banks, that I use for fuelling up at places that only have card machines on the pumps... even then, some have contactless these days.

Other than that, I haven't used anything but my phone to pay for anything for years...

The crims have been using crypto recently, but I reckon that's on the way out. The "home made" cryptos, anyway. We'll probably get the Sunak CDBC's at some point.

And as someone said there’s a Sainsbury’s next door which accepts both cash and card.

This moron purposely went inside a cashless establishment and tried to pay cash.

Well yes but it's a deliberate/pointed protest against the idea of a cashless society... that's sort of the point. I don't know if I agree with the sentiment or not. I think the idea of state control over digital currency is a bit of an overblown conspiracy: we've been using "chip and pin" for decades and moving away from paper cash towards digital payment methods entirely seems like an inevitability.

I do however support people's right to NOT want it and to make a stand against it.

But this seems like a bit of a stunt. The best stand people can take against a "cashless shop" if they don't want them to exist, is to simply not shop there, and to convince others not to shop there.
