Which decade do you think is the best and had your favourite movies overall?
And give me reasons why? What particular movies made that decade stand out above others? Was it the 2000s which had the Lord of the rings trilogy, the first two parts of The Dark Knight trilogy, most of the Harry Potter movies and the peak of Pixar movies? Was it the last decade, the 2010s with the marvel movies? What about the 90s with the people's favourite film The Shawshank redemption as well as Goodfellas, Schindlers List, Fargo, The Matrix and Tarantino in top form? The 80s had great coming of age movies like Breakfast Club and Stand by me as well as Sci fi classics like Back to the future, Blade runner and the two final episodes of the original Star Wars trilogy and the Indiana Jones trilogy. The 70s had the first two Godfather movies along with One flew over the cuckoo's nest and great comedies from Mel Brooks and Monty Python. The start of Star Wars and Rocky. I don't think many of you have ventured much further than that in decades. My favourite is the 50s. But at the moment it's not worth my explanation why. Not until I pull you in to watching the 50s movies. Last edited by Alf; 01-09-2023 at 08:13 PM. |

For me due to my age probably it's the 90s and 00s films for me. 90s films like Titanic, Twister, Jurassic Park, 00s films for the teen movies and comedy's probably. I grew up with 90s and 00s movies. If I had to choose. 90s

I do appreciate 1950s films too though Alf. I organised a Hollywood golden era murder mystery and I was obsessed with learning about the various actors, actresses, directors how films were made etc. The cross over from silent films to talkies. And I also love 80s films. Probably not overly keen on the 70s films nor the 2010s, and definitely not the 2020s so far which seem to be all remakes or unoriginal material

80's and 90's are very, very close but if pushed for an answer, 90's takes the top spot.

The French Connection is a quality film from the 70's. And The Warriors (which a lot of people think is an 80's film but was released in 1979).

I've liked Movies from a few decades.
But for me I'm going to go with the 00's. Reasons why: The Dark Knight Spirited Away Sword Of The Stranger Blade Of The Phantom Master Pixar Movies Dreamworks Movies Lilo & Stitch And Alf when it comes to pre-70's Movies. 1. Psycho 2. Alice In Wonderland (1951 Movie) 3. The Sword And The Stone 4. Peter Pan (1953 Movie) There's probably others that I'm not thinking of currently.

BUT... 90's has so many "firsts" and so much development of the entertainment industry. Movies, TV, games, it was sort of a renaissance for things like visual effects and modern film-making techniques - look at films made in 1990 compared to something like The Matrix (99) or even Titanic, Independence Day, or even earlier with Terminator 2, Jurassic Park etc. You won't find developmental "leaps" like that in the 80's, or the 2000's/2010's even until now. In fact, I watched the first Iron Man (2008) recently and not only are the effects indistinguishable from something you'd see being released in 2023 ... ... some of them are better. |
