Default Is it okay to criticise things?

I'm asking this because there's been a few examples recently of some people not liking criticism being made towards certain things.

1. Some Jujutsu Kaisen fans went ballistic at IGN scoring the Shibuya Arc a 6/10, and were claiming that "story isn't important in JJK" and that it's "deranged behaviour" to give feedback on the writer's storyline that doesn't correlate with thinking that it's a masterpiece.

2. Some Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League fans have said that "you shouldn't criticise the Game because you're berating the team that worked on it" and that "I don't really care about the quality of the product, I just want to consume next product" I wish that I was joking.

Plus the Suicide Squad fandom has some people trying to defend the Harley Quinn hooking up with childlike Poison Ivy with the defense being "the people that complain about this are the same people that probably liked Cuties" and my question on this is do you think that people that don't like Harley Quinn and childlike Poison Ivy's relationship are Cuties fans? Or do you think that there's a different answer?

3. When Christopher Judge at TGA joked about COD MW III's length in it's main campaign, some of the development team that have worked on COD Games in the past started to be extremely narcissistic and butthurt, with basically not liking criticism and bragging about being commercially bigger than GOW (which for anyone that doesn't know, Christopher Judge voices Kratos in God Of War) and whilst yes COD is the bigger franchise, we're comparing a FPS Multiplayer Game with a very narrative heavy single player Game based on Norse Mythology, of course COD is going to be commercially bigger.

Basically the COD narcissists imo just couldn't take criticism from Christopher Judge imo.

4. The newest one that I've found out about today was from George R.R Martin, who was talking about how he feels that "people are really hateful on Social Media, and how they take too much pleasure in people's projects failing."

Now would you say that people shouldn't be critical of things in general?

Of course it’s okay. It’s a necessary part of life.

A caveat would be that the criticism shouldn't involve targeting people involved in making the thing.

My first example will be Star Wars, and Jake Lloyd. Poor kid's life was ruined by the hatred he received.

I agree with you tbh, that poor guy had his career ruined because of the fans negativity going too far.

But I also agree with Redway that it's necessary to be allowed to be critical (even if the criticism is deemed harsh) but I do know that the debate surrounding criticism of people in the public eye, or products being sold to people is getting serious debates on places like Twitter and Youtube on if it's even okay to be even slightly negative.

It's interesting to see where peoples boundaries lie, I feel like I'm at a similar line to you Oliver, and possibly Redway too.

Both mine and Redway's views are compatible - I've talked trash about media I don't like, but it wouldn't occur to me to be horrible to the creatives or cast.

Ha, some actor from that crappy MCU film had to have therapy because no-one liked it

https://www.theguardian.com/film/202...s-for-eternals

How can anyone take an MCU film that seriously? They're just products being churned out, none of them really matter tbh.

I suppose it depends on what some of the fans did say tbf.

But it is no secret that modern Hollywood does struggle with handling criticism unfortunately, hopefully this Actor isn't abusing the Mental Health card.

yes it should be okay to criticize things

regarding Eternals, maybe it was too alternative for the MCU?

i personally liked it, i also like Moon Knight a lot, but that one also received criticism for whatever reason, as i thought the visuals were stunning, storyline was fab especially Ethan Hawke's acting was brilliant i thought

that said, i am happy critics did praise Werewolf by Night though, was scared they wouldn't, but tbh well deserving praise, for that special presentation project which is 100 times better in black/white than in color, has that classic touch about it a la Dracula or Frankenstein how they were made back in the day

Yeah, some people take it way too far. But that’s one way of separating the normies from the crazies when it comes to fan-enthusiasm/criticism. Most people just let their peace be known in a way that’s appropriately channeled and leave it at that. But what we not gonna do is send death-threats to the actors of characters we don’t like and forget that they’re just doing dey job.
