Default Jade Goody: I want to die at home

Quote:
Jade Goody: I want to die at home
errified Jade Goody pleaded with husband Jack Tweed and her two closest girlfriends not to move her into a hospice and screamed out: "I want to die at home!"

Cancer-stricken Jade, 27, is spending 48 hours at the hospice because she needs constant medical supervision after the drugs she was using were changed.

But the dying star was left so disorientated and hallucinating after taking powerful painkillers that she failed to understand the reason for her move.

During a tense FOUR-HOUR stand-off with her new husband Jack and close friends Jade shouted: "I want to die at home!"

In a dramatic showdown Jade screamed and sobbed as Jack, 21, fitness trainer Kevin Adams and two of her bridesmaids from last Sunday's wedding gently persuaded her she was not at death's door. A friend said: "The whole thing was horrendous.

"Jade was hysterical and convinced that everyone was against her, trying to trick her into going to the hospice.

"She has always said she wants to die at home and she thought they were trying to deny her that last wish.

"It was absolutely heart-wrenching to see her in such a state. She has stayed so calm and strong through all of this it was awful to see her lose it like that.

"She is a very stubborn woman and no one can make her do anything she doesn't want to, and she was adamant there was no way she was leaving.

"Jack was at his wits' end trying to talk her round but nothing seemed to help, he couldn't make her understand it was for her own good."

Eventually Jade's friends called doctors who soothed the former Big Brother star over the phone and made clear that she would only be in St Clare Hospice in Harlow, Essex, for the weekend.

Jade, who has been given only weeks to live after her cervical cancer spread to her liver and bowel, eventually left her house in a tearful state at about 5pm on Friday.

Jack gently coaxed his new wife - clutching a "lollipop stick" of painkillers - into the back of their silver Mercedes where she clung to him.

It was the first time Jade had left her home in Upshire, Essex, in four days.

Last night her publicist Max Clifford said she had spent a comfortable first night in the hospice and was expected to stay there for another two days.

He said: "I've spoken to one of her friends and they said she had a far more comfortable night."

Mr Clifford said one of the reasons for her admission was to shield her agony from her two sons. He said: "They don't know it's a hospice - they think she is in hospital."

Despite her condition, Mr Clifford said Jade was determined to go ahead with plans to be christened with her boys Bobby, five, and Freddie, four, next weekend in a service at a church near their home with about 50 guests.

He said: "That's what she is hoping and that's the plan - for next Saturday. It will be a local church and then a party afterwards for all the children. She wants to make it as big a party as possible."

Jade is also hoping to be well enough to film an interview with Piers Morgan for ITV that will be recorded early next week and broadcast later in the month.

Jade was visited at the hospice yesterday by one of her bridesmaids, Jennifer Smith.

Meanwhile a 1.6-mile walk was held to show support for the star and raise money for her children.

About 250 people - many wearing Goody T-shirts - set off from Femme Fatale, the beauty salon Jade jointly owns in Loughton, Essex.

Organiser Jerri Lee, who help organise the event, said it was intended to "display our love".

Miss Lee said: "Jade is Jade and she does what she wishes and what she knows. Nobody should be criticising her for how she has chosen to handle what is happening to her."
