Default Joe McElderry ditches 'The Climb' for NTA

Woop!

Quote:
X Factor winner Joe McElderry is to perform Journey's 'Don't Stop Believin' at the National TV Awards next week, according to a report.

Simon Cowell picked the 1981 classic for McElderry after deciding that he should not sing debut single 'The Climb' at the event, The Sun claims.

Sources have suggested that Cowell also wants McElderry to release 'Don't Stop Believin' as his second single later this year.

The 18-year-old star is expected to appear as the opening act at Wednesday night's NTAs, which honour the best TV programmes and personalities of the past year.

McElderry previously sang 'Don't Stop Believin' in The X Factor's Rock Week, prompting the hit to return to the charts. The song was later tipped as a possible winner's single, but Cowell eventually opted for 'The Climb' instead.

It would be a good move to release it.. especially with Glee picking up in the UK.

I'd still rather he released original material though. It's probably just a rumour anyway.

I would too, but it will raise his profile if he releases another cover at this point. And, DSB has become better known since Glee, so it's good timing.

Yeah, I guess. It re-entered the charts originally because of Joe anyway.

Thats all based on one show, it might have completely bombed by the end of the month. And if its being released later this year, it doesn't really matter about Glee.

I guess it depends on how much later in the year he's talking.. and of course, how well Glee does in ratings.

However, if they use the same promo ads as they did in the US, the song features heavily on them, so even people not watching Glee will be hearing the song a lot. That could have a positive effect in the same way songs used in ads become popular in the chart.

I think they'll find they have a song which they want as the single once things are recorded and such.

I'm guessing at most it'd be an album track. It's not a good move to release two covers in a row.

It's a good idea to ditch The Climb though, it was a terrible track (even for X Factor Standards).
