M.I.A splits from fiancé as Super Bowl middle finger mystery deepens
The mystery behind just who M.I.A’s Super Bowl middle finger was aimed at deepened as it emerged the British rapper has split from her fiancé.

Controversy surrounding the rude gesture in front of millions of TV viewers was amplified amid speculation that Benjamin Bronfman has moved on.

The 36-year-old’s woes followed rumours that Madonna is ‘furious’ with her for flipping the bird during Sunday’s show, which M.I.A. is said to be ‘incredibly sorry’ about.

As for her engagement, the Londoner – whose real name is Mathangi Arulpragasam – has been spending most of her time in Britain while Bronfman and their son, Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman, are in New York.

Insiders say they have been staying with the former reggae-punk guitarist’s mother, Sherry Bronfman.

The New York Daily News reported that M.I.A. ‘sometimes goes six weeks’ without seeing her child, who turns three this week.

To make matters worse, Bronfman, 29, was last week spotted at a Harlem cultural centre on what ‘looked like a date with a beautiful woman’, according to witnesses.

The breakdown in the couple’s love affair comes three years after they bought a home together in LA.

However, the Paper Planes hitmaker – who is of Sri Lankan decent – dug her heels in over marrying to land a Green Card for the US.

‘I’m not going to lose my integrity for that s***,’ she said. ‘I actually want a nice wedding.’

M.I.A. is currently promoting her forthcoming single Bad Girls.

Her representatives were unavailable to comment.
