Default Australian, Kerry Stokes, to bid on Channel 5?

Quote:
The Australian have reported that Australian Media Mongul, Kerry Stokes, is to bid on Channel 5

Kerry Stokes is reportedly set to bid on Channel 5, after Richard Desmond placed the channel up for sale. British banking sources said Mr Stokes expressed interest in the broadcaster in February when the sale process kicked off, and he may return with a firm offer this month.

However, Mr Stokes also said that he didn’t believe that Channel 5 was worth as much as the £700 Million asking price. The potential bid would mean that Stokes, who owns Seven West Media, would go up against Rupert Murdoch, who is reportedly making a bid with BSkyB alongside Discovery.

This could actually be a good idea... and could open up the potential for Big Brother Australia to be aired in the UK. I know quite a few people are already asking for that to happen.

Didn't BBUS fail when it aired over here on E4?

I'd say Aus is an alternative format.

One of the reasons I enjoyed it last year was because it was done differently to ours and felt fresh to me.

BBUS is crap. It's like watching a cheap soap.

BBUS is amazing. The last series was SO much better than BB11, 12 & 14 UK. I had the same perception as you before I gave it a go

I like Big Brother to be more of a reality show

BBUS makes it look like a serious game show

I've never enjoyed any series of Big Brother USA. I've never been able to enjoy it. It just doesn't feel like Big Brother.

BBUK at it's peak does many a shit upon BBUSA, however the UK format is clearly dead now and BBUSA is truly one of the only versions of the franchise left that provides gripping tv. The racism that happened last year was fascinating, I've never been emotionally invested in a series like that in ages (bar BB13)

I don't think the format is dead, the ratings have been improving for BBUK every so it's still got life C5 just needs to stop with the summer celebrity series and all the nomination twist's

It failed on E4 cause they showed two of the worst seasons (4 and 9). I bet BB6, 10 and 11 would've performed better, especially the latter two

BBAUS might've tweaked the noms process but it's still largely the same. The house nominates, the public votes. That's not really what I'd call an 'alternative format' personally, just a tweaked one.

Have any of you watched more than idk say ten episodes of BBUS and some of the feeds? I don't think you can judge a show like that till you've given it a proper go. It is definitely a different show altogether from BBUK, on that I will concede and yes it almost certainly is a gameshow rather than a reality show (although it's still people living in a house playing a game which ****s with you emotionally, so it evokes the same kinda reactions BBUK does) but I much prefer that, there's far more dynamics and layers and having the feeds still available makes it even more interesting to watch the game unfold week by week. Plus there's no public vote which is hands down the best part cause if your favourite gets evicted it's either through poor game play or a twist that didn't go in their favour, not moronic voters destroying every inch of entertainment

I still like BBUK don't get me wrong, but the US format ****s all over ours and I actually in all honesty prefer the way the shows are edited (not the way the houseguests are portrayed before someone pulls me up on this, but the slickness of the edits themselves). People complain about the tacky music the UK show uses but it's done much more effectively and in a way which actually enhances the show on BBUS and BBCAN

And I like one highlight show a day it's more easy to see what's going on then like 3 days of highlights in a 45 minute show

3 episodes a week + live feed > 7 episodes a week and 30 min feed.

The UK evictions/Launch are also much better (even tbh with the awful crowd ) and the people are better because you can understand what they say

It is. It doesn't feel real. It feels like a bunch of bad actors in a cheap soap.

But then I hate the style of all US type reality shows, talking head shows full of overblown acting and OTT drama and seeing the same clip 5 times.

I prefer nightly episodes for BBUK because they're absolutely essential seeing as we have no feeds anymore, also because it's a different kind of show and you need nightly updates on the relationships within the house. But three shows a week for BBUS/BBCA works because you have the feeds to consolidate the action, the episodes literally just compliment everything you've watched live. And I also like how each of the episodes has a theme, one nominations, one Veto, one eviction. It just works, there doesn't need to be any more.

Just to add to the subject of editing, I also like the way the houseguests narrate the show from the Diary Room. As much as I love Marcus Bentley I prefer it that way

And I waaaaaay prefer BBUS live shows to ours. I wish BBUK would move to an indoor studio and have a smaller, more subdued audience. The shows are so much more feel-good

believe me when I say the last series of BBUSA made BB14 seem like a child's show.

Also I'd argue that BBUK is more of a soap opera than BBUS and that's because we have no live feed. Yes there's less episodes in the US and they have music beds all throughout them and they're hyped up etc etc (whatever you want to say), but as I said the fact that live feeds are available means you get to see what is actually happening day in, day out and so you know how accurate and reflective the episode portrayals are and the episodes are just consolidating what you already know

With the UK show we get 48 minutes a night from a day in which we miss 23 hours and 12 minutes. They can literally edit the show in any way they want and portray any housemate in any kind of light, cover anything up and we wouldn't be at all the wiser and since the show moved to C5 there's been a couple of examples of this. That makes BBUK in its current state much more of a soap opera than BBUS to me despite having more episodes that are edited differently

There eviction set looks like it a garden and it's like a real house what I don't like

BBUK house are more weird and have a weird design what I like, the BBUS house looks like a real house

BB7/BB6 UK house >>>>>> any house of any big brother

I meant soap opera in its presentation.

Watching BBUS is like watching a daytime soap, it doesn't feel as though I'm watching real people all living together. But I get that from all US reality shows, they're all like that.

Especially that "contestant narrates and states the obvious of what you're seeing on screen" is really grating. They've started doing that with the tasks on BBUK and it's awful. Like Towie or something.
