you could have it as a side with curry or just have the lentils with rice itself. it's soo nice (not the runny kind though, that's tasteless). it tastes best after a few days when it's dried up (and looks like the picture I posted above)

not sure what else though, I've never had lentil soup

they're flavourless but they're okay in something so you can't taste them .

Yeah, they're great as a base for a soup or stew and also in curries and dal.
They're a great source of protein Jords, that's why they're so popular as an ingredient in veggie cooking as a replacement protein instead of the meat.

I love them but only when other people are cooking with them, I cannot be sacked with soaking them in water for fifteen decades

Salmon on a bed of brown rice with green lentils and wilted spinach is one of my favourite meals. If you put a veg stock cube in the water when cooking the rice and lentils it is

Most lentils actually don't need soaking, just rinsed under water until it runs clear.

Dry beans - Pre Soak
Lentils - No need to pre soak but you can if you want..

True story.

Maybe I'm thinking of split peas or something

I'm pretty sure that it's chickpeas that need to be soaked.
They're much larger than lentils (around the size of a de-shelled hazelnut)and they have quite a 'nutty' taste.
