[Robots could be granted legal “personhood”, under recommendations made
to the European parliament on how intelligent robotic systems should be governed in the future.]

In todays Times
And if the EU Parliament is involved, then we can look forward to Robot owners being able to claim Job Seekers, Housing Benefits and Council Tax rebates on their behalf, and being granted the power to vote on their behalf in General Elections.

Additional spin-off benefits will surely be that a documentary will be made highlighting the lives of unemploted robots which will in turn lead to appearances in other reality TV shows, then to certain robots standing for election as MP's..... Oh, sorry, I'm getting carried away, that could never happen.

No not at all

The US Army are testing Robots
and making sure a sniper can not stop them
so once a sniper fires a bullet ,
The Armed Robot tracks
it then moves fast to kill him

It means no good humans will die.

I'd be fine with that if I could be guaranteed that there will never be any kind of technical breakdown or mishap. The trouble with technology is that it's designed, built and programmed by humans.

Nothing utilising new technology is now produced without - what the manufacturers would have us believe - are adequate safety measures; from the most rigorous safety systems of Nuclear power plants, to the simple wire guards of electric fires. Yet, Chernobyl happened, and every week electric fires are to blame for all too often, tragic house blazes.

No technology is so proficient, that man can rely on it absolutely, and with the proposal that these robots will replace man in warfare, there is another real danger; 'detachment'.

Credit accounts with Internet Bookies, Credit Cards, and the Nick Leeson/Barings Bank shocker, are perhaps the best analogies I can use to illustrate what I mean by 'detachment'. All involve(d) money transactions without the physical handling of actual tangible money, and thus, the person placing internet bets or buying goods on a credit card is psychologically 'detached' from the actual reality of such transactions, and is therefore far less likely to realise or be concerned that his bet is too large or that he cannot really afford to make that purchase. It's harder to place a Ł300 bet on a horse if that is in real money which you have to take out from your Ł400 wage packet, and it's impossible to buy that new Ł400 coat when you only have Ł200 left 'in the world'. Similarly, Nick Lesson acted as he did because it "wasn't real money".

'Detachment' blinds us to actuality and consequence, so we become, not only, 'not responsible' for our actions, but we cease to care.

War has always been illogical and senseless, but if it is to be fought out by robots v humans in some Terminator style future, then it will truly become a 'game' to the side controlling the robots. A game played by megalomaniac military Top Brass in a comfy control centre far remote from the bloodshed and crushed bodies which litter the battleground. Such a game will be played with total 'detachment' and no sense of the real inhuman carnage which their master strategies are creating.

Robert Oppenheimer quoting from The Bhagavad-Gita said:

"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds."

But he also said:

"The atomic bomb made the prospect of future war unendurable. It has led us up those last few steps to the mountain pass; and beyond there is a different country."

War waged by robots reinstates Oppenheimer first quote, and makes a lie of his other.

Then, as it approaches the target, it is infected with a virus, turns and attacks those who built it .... things are advancing, but we are not there yet
