Unhappy Indian Footballer dies from celebrating goal

Warning- Pictures and videos that some people may see as distressing
Quote:
NEW DELHI - A young footballer lost his life in India's north-east over the weekend after injuring his spinal cord while celebrating a goal he had scored, newspapers reported on Monday.

Peter Biaksangzuala, 23, fell backwards on his head as he took a series of somersaults after scoring the equaliser for his team in a local match in Khawzawl town close to India's eastern border with Myanmar last Tuesday, the Times of India said.

As he lay on the ground in pain, unsuspecting team-mates jumped on him to celebrate before they realised the extent of the injury and summoned an stretcher to rush him to hospital.

Biaksangzuala died on Sunday after his condition deteriorated in hospital as doctors attempted to repair his damaged spine, the newspaper quoted hospital staff as saying.

Lal Hmar, a football official in Mizoram state, told reporters in capital Aizawl that the young footballer had donated his eyes before his death.

"Peter was a very talented player who dreamt of playing in the national league," Hmar said. "His death has come as a big shock to all of us. We all thought he will recover."

Hmar said the local association was planning to hold a charity match in Biaksangzuala's memory.

Maybe Premiership Footballers will think twice about using this as a goal celebration.

no ouch, it was instant.

As a 20 year smoker, i'd rather go out that way than getting esophageal cancer and having to blink to communicate after they remove my jaw.

It wasn't an instant death although I'm sure if his spinal chord was injured he didn't have a lot of pain (I hope not anyway). Very sad.....

The article says that team mates jumped on him not realising that he was hurt, but from the clip it looks like they realised straight away and were rushing over to help. Anyway, the only positive hear is that at least it probably was quick and painless - it's likely that he never knew anything happened at all. No, he didn't die instantly, but with an injury like that it's probably likely that he was knocked out instantly and never woke up.

Well... most of us won't die aged 23.

And whilst I get that life can be inherently frustrating and for most people probably a bit unfulfilling - anyone who dies lonely has no one but themselves to blame.

When it says he donated his eyes does that mean it was something he agreed to do before this accident or was he conscious at some point after doing it?

Not really.

There's many old folks whose partners die, they have no children for one reason or another and have no relatives and die lonely. I wouldn't say that's about "blame" at all.

Some people have partners die and choose loneliness, which is completely their own choice and fair enough. Other than that - anyone who is lonely simply because they don't have blood relatives has, at some point along the line, in some way, limited themselves. It's not about anyone else "blaming" anyone, an individual's loneliness is nothing to do with anyone but them, and affects no one but them... and no one HAS to be lonely. Friendship and companionship is literally everywhere for anyone who seeks it. Most people just don't.

Yes, but you said anyone who is lonely only has themselves to blame. There are countless reasons for someone to end up alone that wouldn't be their own doing.
