Surely it is not beyond the competence of a Home Secretary, even one as bad as Theresa May is, and the PM of the day to appoint someone who has absolutely no connection to the period or the leading Politicians of the period too.
What an absolute farce of bad judgement has come from both the Home Secretary and PM as to this. |

I think it is possibly because she has probable hopes of leading the Party after David Cameron. So to avoid any moves from her against him he tries to keep her sweet, well as sweet as is possible for her that is. |

Its actually more difficult than you would imagine. To have a big enough profile and experience to be acceptable for the job, the person would need to have been around for a while, and then its highly unlikely they will not at some point have come in to contact with someone potentially involved in the case. Really difficult one I would suggest.

It still should be relatively easy to find someone not connected to the problems of the time or to high ranking politicians of the time too.
It may have even helped had Theresa May done absolutely the right thing at first and consulted the victims groups rather than jump in and make drastically wrong decisions as to appointments. The woman is the worst Home Secretary we have likely ever had in the UK. |

I'm struggling to think of a good home secretary that has been appointed by either party for a very long time. The more i think about it, the more i realise how bad they all actually were. Its a position that seems to attract some very dodgy characters indeed.
