I suppose the main fight will be around ten or soon after. There's a few on the bill tonight though. I can't find it on the internet and Sky block First Row Europe.

Nathan Cleverley is not a cruiserweight, and in any event, he left the best part of himself in the ring the night Sergey Kovalev brutalised him. Bellews is a cruiserweight but tonight he was carrying too much weight.
The result was that the fight did not live up to the hype and was disappointing. Bellews was slow, could not find his timing and in the first 8 rounds of the fight, virtually every shot he threw were heavy shots which missed wildly. Instead of countering these missed shots of Bellews, Cleverly was content merely to keep the fight long distance by the use of lightweight pitty pat jabs. Cleverly was noticeably 'right hand' shy throughout the fight leading to some at ringside to speculate that he had injured it. The fight was a real boring 'pick 'em' for the first 8 rounds with a flat footed ponderous Bellews on the front foot chasing Cleverly to no avail, and Cleverly hardly landing a meaningful blow. I had Bellews ahead by 2 rounds going into the 9th. From the 9th, Cleverly was clearly totally drained - he had stopped dancing, stopped jabbing, and in a scenario reminiscent of Muhammed Ali's 'Rope a Dope' tactics against Foreman in Zaire, he laid against the ropes being pummeled by an equally drained Bellews. Despite Bellows having the higher KO percentage, using his weight to lean on Cleverly, and having 'free shots', it is a testament to Cleverly's bravery that he finished the fight on his feet. I really think that Cleverly should retire - he is an ex World Champ, has millions in the bank and is still a young man. I hope he does walk away because he simply has nowhere else to go now - unless he is content to return to light heavy and box on on a domestic level, which I would hate to see him do. As for Bellews, I do not think he will ever win a World Title, and I think we have seen the best of him - in any weight division. As a footnote - that fat, bent, Karl Malden clone, Terry O'Connor, scored the fight to Cleverly by 1 Round in the face of every other man on the planet's verdict that Bellews was the clear winner by a 2 rounds to 5 rounds margin. This is a fecking disgrace and it's time O'Connor was either banned from refereeing or shipped off to Germany to referee, where all their judges are as bent as he is. Just my opinion. |
