"A paranoid schizophrenic who stabbed his mum to death was released from a mental hospital for killing his dad because she made a plea on his behalf.
Leslie Gadsby, 42, was jailed for life with a minimum of 20 years behind bars for the manslaughter of his 70-year-old mum, Edna, in March 2010. The fatal attack came less than three years after he was freed from the Scott Clinic in Rainhill for battering his dad, Arthur, to death with a claw hammer. Liverpool Coroners’ Court heard that during that incident in 2004, the ex-cabbie also severely injured his mum – but she later urged the authorities to allow him to move back into the community." There was a case similar to this a year or so ago, the judge in that case was said to have stated she could't use her schizophrenia as an excuse for what she had done :/
'At Edgington's trial the prosecution argued she had been wrongly diagnosed with schizophrenia and had a borderline personality disorder rather than a mental illness. The judge, Brian Barker, told Edgington her acts had been "consistent and calculated". He said: "You are manipulative and exceptionally dangerous. What you did could not have been more selfish. I disagree that the responsibility for these acts can be laid on others. You made your choice and these were terrible acts for which you must take responsibility." http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2013/m...cola-edgington
