Children have been forced out of their school because of damp after a plant making the Queen’s favourite bottled water was shut down, locals claim.
Malvern Water – drunk by the royals since the 1600s – was produced at the factory for years but closed in 2010. Now 190 pupils nearby have had to move to temporary classrooms. Locals say the closure by Coca-Cola caused the damp as the 12 million litres the plant took from the hills each year has nowhere to go. The parish council’s Nicky Carless said: “Water was coming through the school’s carpets, you put your hand down and it squelched.” He said of claims the closure in Colwall, Herefordshire, was behind it: “It’s not unreasonable to come to the assumption.” Council surveyors are investigating but have failed to find a link. Question: Were these surveyors, A) incompetant B) bribed C) kidnapped by aliens and reprogrammed http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news...-after-5001320

Someone needs to break the news to the Queen that all bottled water tastes exactly the same... .
As for the school, I'm sort of doubtful that this is the reason for the damp. In terms of the amount of water that pours down from a hilly water source in a year, 12 million litres isn't actually all that much water. |

- Turned out to just be treated London tap water with added minerals, - Was discovered to be full of carcinogens and subsequently pulled from the UK market And most importantly, - was initially marketed using the slogan "bottled spunk". Seriously! I believe they bought another actual water source to provide bottled water under "Schweppes" (to avoid the bad PR surrounding cola and bottled water) for the 2012 Olympics sooo the obvious answer is that either they bought this one also but shut it down because they discovered that they didn't need that volume of water, OR (also perfectly likely for a dastardly big multinational) they bought it and shut it down simply to eliminate some competition. Either way, I think the real problem is that the building obviously wasn't well planned in the first place, shouldn't this have been considered? I mean, obviously the spring has been there since long before people started bottling it - so whatever the situation with the water table level in the area, that is how it is naturally supposed to be. The water is supposed to be there - it was being artificially removed. Potentially, that should have been considered when building there in the first place. Although I don't know how old these building are. I don't think they gave these things much consideration in ye olde days. It sort of reminds me of these little towns and villages built on flood plains, where everyone is horrified when their homes then... Get flooded. I mean, these plains have been flooding periodically for millions of years! Did people think they would stop, just because someone built houses on them? Hmmm. Anyway, enjoy: |

Seeing as the Malvern spring has been bottled at source since the days of Elizabeth 1, I think it can be safe to say that it's not simply the schools design as it's stated the problems only began after 2010 when the bottling ceased.
It's nothing to do with building on a flood plain, which as you say is silly. So this is the 2nd natural spring to be bought and closed by coca cola? If they bought one and it was too much for them then you have to ask why they bought another.

So my theories were that they either shut this one because of lack of demand, or deliberately to boost the Abbey Well brand, however it seems that Schweppes / cola has actually owned Malvern for over 100 years, it wasn't a recent purchase. So, I think it may be as simple as them having been pushed out of the market by the "usual" brands with bigger marketing, such as evian and volvic. |
