To be fair, this has happened with RBS something like 3 times now. More transactions being carried out digitally rather than with cash / cheque, old systems can't keep up.

This is awful for people who needed their money on time.

Surely people should run their finances so they have a sufficient financial cushion to pay bills if their salaries are not paid on time?

Also if I read the pronouncements right, HSBC will only compensate their own customers, so if you are a customer of another bank, and you have incurred bank charges and hardship due to this error by HSBC, it is a case of "Suck it up, you won't get a bean, have a nice day!"

A lot of people reporting that their money has not showed up

In this tweet HSBC admits

Quote:
If Fridays payments missed the cut off for the day then they will credit on the next working Day which is Tuesday
So it was quite disingenuous to say it was fixed.

Wow that's pretty grim for those with bank holiday plans... hmmm, why is this bank so desperate to cling on to funds?

That is just the way the BACS works from what I can tell. The money was pushed out, but the receiving bank had shut up shop for the weekend.
