Default The X Factor to be rested? (Dermot thinks so)

Quote:
X Factor could be rested for a few years before being brought back even stronger, its executive producer has claimed.

Richard Holloway spoke about the show's declining ratings during a Royal Television Society event in London.

"[X Factor] will have a finite life span. But I think you then rest it, then you bring it back," Billboard quotes him as saying.

"As long as we produce the show to a standard, which the public really, really wants to see... then there is no reason why we can't produce it for years and years and years."

He added that he has a really good "give-and-take relationship" with show boss Simon Cowell, though the two do not always agree and will debate things.

"Nothing is forever," Holloway said, while suggesting that the media is too preoccupied with overnight TV ratings data despite changing technology.

"Viewing habits have changed enormously, especially in the last couple of years... we all got to appreciate that and kind of consider it more."

Holloway is also an executive producer of Britain's Got Talent, and claimed it was a "more engaged format" than other high-rating shows like The Great British Bake Off.

"I think it could run for many, many years. It's our most profitable show," he said of the variety talent contest.

In 2013, Cowell signed a three-year deal with ITV to keep The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent on air until 2016.

The X Factor is currently in its 12th series in the UK, and returns for a new episode on Sunday (September 27) at 7pm.

I sort of hope that this is true tbh. Whilst I love the show, it just doesn't feel right at the moment, so a rest to come up with new ideas might be the right step forward.

This is what Big Brother needs tbh or needed after it was axed 5 years ago. I wouldn't mind this for The X Factor though

Said this years ago, wouldn't be surprised if it was too late now tbh, it'd need to be off air a good 3/5 years to be successful again

Yes The Fossil Factor should be rested until the public and Simon learn to appreciate good Music and not churn out shallow crap series after series.

Oh have the acts perform good songs and not songs that make you want to slash your wrists.

I voted not fussed because I still probably wouldn't watch it even if it was off air for 10 years. It wouldn't be a bad idea for them to try though, it's what should've happened with BBUK.

Should be axed tbh. The last good series was the 2010 one. They've all been trash since. I don't even watch it anymore. It's a tired format (which the same can't be said for BB).

I don't understand the hate for this series. I'm really enjoying it. It seems too be more old school in terms of bootcamp etc and I'm liking it and no I don't want it to rest

Dermot think's that it should be rested as well:

Quote:
The former X Factor presenter Dermot O’Leary has said Simon Cowell should rest the ITV talent show for a year and undo recent changes when it returns.

The 42-year-old presenter told the Radio Times he was uncomfortable with alterations to the format on 2015’s show, which he suggested made it lack the warmth compared to BBC rival Strictly Come Dancing.

O’Leary said the so-called Six-Chair Challenge element, introduced on the most recent X Factor series, which sees acts chosen then deselected by judges in front of a baying audience, was in his view not a “particularly nice bit of television”.

He said producers should change the hyperbolic language used on the show, although he said the talent on the series was still “brilliant”.

The presenter, who is hosting a new BBC1 driving entertainment show called The Getaway Car, which features The Stig from Top Gear, told the magazine: “If I was Simon I’d take it off air for a year. I’d rest it, and then I’d get back to the rooms.

“For me it was always room, arena, boot camp. Also I was really uncomfortable about the Six-Chair Challenge. I don’t think it’s a particularly nice bit of television. One of the reasons people like Strictly is because it is a very warm show, and I think you’ve got to keep that in mind.”

The ITV show’s most recent series, won by Louisa Johnson, saw an alarming slide in ratings. The Sunday night finale was watched by 8.4 million viewers, the lowest since Steve Brookstein won in 2004.

When asked why the ITV show’s ratings had dropped so much in recent times, O’Leary, who presented the show for eight years, said he did not know, but added that viewers had “gone and watched Strictly”.

O’Leary, who ruled himself out of presenting The Voice when it transfers to ITV from the BBC, admitted he does not speak to Cowell anymore, but also that he barely spoke to him when he was on the show.

The TV presenter’s new 12-part car show features couples competing in driving challenges. It is is his first major entertainment series on TV since he left the X Factor.

O’Leary denied he quit The X Factor because he knew he was going to be replaced, but admitted he had begun to feel a little stale.

The Radio 2 presenter added the BBC should not get a “kicking” for successful shows like The Voice.

It needs Simon to go, his Music taste is too old fashioned and that's all is left watching the show now.

Rest it for 5 to 10 years and then relaunch with a brand new style.

Have 16 acts and have them be all different styles to each other.

1. Pop Male
2. Pop Female
3. Indie
4. Rock
5. Metal
6. Folk
7. Reggae
8. R&B
9. Country
10. House
11. Hip-Hop
12. Grime
13. Dubstep
14. Joke Act
15. Kids Singer
16. Jazz

I know that not every style will be liked by everybody, but the show needs to learn that to survive it needs to be more diverse, and maybe allow some songwriting to go on for their winners songs too instead of doing constant covers as their winners singles.

That would've been great as The X Factor is going down a negative road in losing viewers. It's almost as if people aren't interested anymore (including me)

Apparently ITV has decided that TXF will continue to be on television for another two series (oh, I'm already dreading. I hate the 6 chair challenge and 2 acts leaving every live show)

If they do decide to give the show a rest in the future, I think that they should take the time to think through a better format to make the viewers more interested for when or if the show is brought back on air. I didn't like Nick Grimshaw and am finding Cheryl Cole's constant bickering with Simon tedious (Simon knows what he's saying hon.. You can't sing in tune IMO. What do you know?).

A great panel would be:
Simon Cowell, Tulisa, Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh

The presenter should go back to being:
Dermot O'Leary

Sorry, if my opinion is controversial. All I'm doing is sharing it and if any of you disagree then that's your opinion. We are all here to share the way we feel. I like to think that they will give the viewers space from The X Factor in the near future

Get rid of the 6 chairs challenge and have more live shows. No double eliminations, new panel.

I agree - It is tedious and long overdue a rest -- preferably a permanent one.
