Not afraid of death itself, but the manner of how I might die concerns me ie of some painful illness, or at the hand of some psycho, or drowning

I think I'd like to die of an illness when I'm older. That way I can be with my family in hospital in my last hours. I wouldn't like to die in my sleep. I'd hate that. It happened to my aunt when she was in her late 20's, absolutely awful, didn't get to say her goodbyes.

I think when your about to die it feels fine as your probably fell ill or tired.

But if I was murdered or terriost attack then I'd feel scared.

Depends really what the illness is I guess, like I'd hate to have a stroke and be still mentally capable but not be able to communicate, I think dying in my sleep would be a bonus if I was elderly, For anyone dying young as a result of an accident or something it is tough on those left behind.

I'm not afraid of death, but I am a little afraid of what leads up to it. My mum died after a short illness and whilst that gave us chance to say things to her that we wanted too, it was awful to watch a once vibrant intelligent person growing weaker and weaker so quickly. I think I would prefer it to be quick and sudden,.....which is why it's so important to me to make sure everyone I love knows it, not to fall out and to just enjoy life

No, death is inevitable, there's no point in being scared in something you can't change imo, there are ways of dying that I'm scared of, but not death itself.

Pretty much in line with the views expressed - Death is inevitable and I don't fear it, but I would like to think that my death will be peaceful and not sudden, but nor at the end of any long, painful illness either.

No.
I can truthfully say that I actually prayed for death once.
I was in so much pain I asked the doctor to give me a bit extra morphine, I was delirious at the time mind.
I had less than 6 months to live and my only chance of survival was an operation with a 50/50 chance of success. I wasn't frightened of dying, just very sad that I would be leaving behind two very young children and a husband I loved dearly.
Thankfully I lived to tell the tale.

I'm not afraid of dying as such, but I am fearful of being buried alive so have opted for cremation, lol at least that way I will be gone quickly.

That's one of my big fears as well I think it stems from a horror movie I saw when I was young

But why not arrange to be buried in a special coffin which has an alarm fitted and an air supply?

Better than 'waking up' in the midst of all those crematorium flames - that way you really are toast.

Oh hell Kaz, one of my biggest fears, that and coming round in the middle of an op and not being able to make the surgeon etc aware.
I told the anaesthetist that he better give me too much stuff rather than not enough my last op.
I should really be having a few ops but I am now so scared of coming round I won't have them done.

Yes. I find it hard to believe when people say that they aren't. I think it's a fear that comes to haunt everyone at some point, be it now or when you're on your deathbed itself.

I'm not afraid of death, it's a natural part of life. I am afraid of an early, prolonged, agonising death.

I think that the older we get, the more 'acclimatised' that we get to the prospect of death, and therefore the less it genuinely 'scares' us.

I have no proof, but I do think though that on the deathbed is the pivotal point when lots of lifelong avowed atheists who do fear death, must suddenly re-examine their views and start to hope AND pray - whether they make such a 'sea change' public or not.
