Default The PM's mother moaning about Local Council Cuts

Perfect for the Daily Mirror

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/...drens-services

Aged 81 his Mother
has gone against her son
I am sure the PM would know of this
of this attack.

[Mary Cameron, who is 81 and served for years as a magistrate,
confirmed to the Daily Mirror that she had signed
a petition battling to save children’s centres designated
for closure by the Conservative-run Oxfordshire county council.
The petition, signed by about 10,000 people,
says: “Our children’s centres are a lifeline to new parents who
rely on locally accessible advice and support at a time when
it is most needed.]

If fit age should never be a barrier to Trying to be PM,Winston Churchill was elected PM in 1951 at around 76 years old.

Good on the PM's Mother for signing this knowing the embarrassment it could cause him.

No Kirk, one swallow doesn't make a summer, she would need to criticise a great deal more of his policies yet.

Can you imagine the conversations she's now having with her son.

Cameron: Mummy you are so naughty. DO YOU REALISE WHAT YOU'VE DONE?

Mary: I'm sorry Doodle, but mummy hasn't forgiven you since that pig incident. You were a very naughty boy who brought untold shame on our families good name.

Cameron: Sob...sob What do I have to do to make you proud of ME mummy?.

Mary: ...click

It's the Council who've cut the children's centres, not the government.

The government have cut councils funding....obviously said councils have to adjust their services as such

Apparently its a small cut that should be easy to get over.... But its something like 33%, or 72m

Yes I understand that. But Councils make the decision about where to make cuts and they can raise council tax if they need to. Children, the sick and the elderly should be ring-fenced in my opinion. And when you look at the amount of money councils waste on crap it's easy to see where the money goes.

I agree. I also think the sick and disabled should be immune from cuts but unfortunately it doesn't work this way.

He has no right to be moaning on about cuts in his constituency when he has effectively, made the cuts. Removing 72 million from a councils budget is ridiculous.

Cameron complains that he is “disappointed” by the council’s proposals “to make significant cuts to frontline services – from elderly day centres, to libraries, to museums. This is in addition to the unwelcome and counter-productive proposals to close children’s centres across the county.” Why, he asks, has Oxfordshire not focused instead on “making back-office savings”? Why hasn’t it sold off its surplus property? After all, there has been only “a slight fall in government grants in cash terms”. Couldn’t the county “generate savings in a more creative manner”?

Explaining the issue gently, as if to a slow learner, the council leader, Ian Hudspeth, points out that the council has already culled its back-office functions, slashing 40% of its most senior staff and 2,800 jobs in total, with the result that it now spends less on these roles than most other counties. He explains that he has already flogged all the property he can lay hands on, but would like to remind the prime minister that using the income from these sales to pay for the council’s running costs “is neither legal, nor sustainable in the long-term since they are one-off receipts”.

As for Cameron’s claim about government grants, Hudspeth comments: “I cannot accept your description of a drop in funding of Ł72m or 37% as a ‘slight fall’.”

Source may be rubbished due to (unneeeded) slant of Cameron as an utter imbecile. But still has the main points in

its the council that set their charges based on the services they want to provide. I would argue that councils are deliberately targeting services considered controversial to make a point

What he says and promises Vicky are 2 different things. No wonder Nigel Farage describes him as someone who you cannot believe a word he says.

He also says he wants all children to get the care his son got from the NHS, yet again under his policies many children with special needs are having operations cancelled and put off.

He is a man very good at paying lip service to important issues while doing or allowing to be done, the opposite to what he claims to stand for.
Not lifting a finger to stop such things either.
He may say he believes it wrong to close children's centres but he is then content to sit back and let it take place.
No matter how it happens that they close.
