Default Oops UKIP..

Ukip allowed criminals with a violent past as well as racists and homophobes to stand as candidates during the last election, according to a report.

The Times newspaper says it has obtained a leaked dossier showing that the party was aware of but ignored the controversial backgrounds of a number of its candidate.

Fourteen of the party’s candidates from the May elections are reported to have a violent past while five have been convicted for offences included grievous bodily harm and assault.

A further 23 candidates of the candidates expressed sexist, racist, or homophobic views, one expressed support for the far-right English Defence League street gang.

The candidates stood for a mixture of MP and council positions.

The newspaper says that in most cases, the candidates in the dossier were initially barred from standing after a vetting process but then managed to reverse the decision at appeal.

Of 200 candidates blocked by David Soutter, Ukip’s head of candidates in 2014, 128 challenged their rejection and 115 were allowed to run.

It looks like they were red flagged but through the democratic appeal process were able to stand legally.

To try and somehow say that the other two main parties have candidates with unblemished records is ludicrous

see below

Convicted MPs - at a glance

Labour Councillor (Northampton/Northamptonshire), and former School Governor, Alec Dyer-Atkins – Convicted and jailed for 2 years in 2003 for downloading more than 42,000 pictures and films described in court as “Horrifying images of child abuse”. Dyer-Atkins was a member of an international paedophile ring called `The Shadows Brotherhood` which was successfully penetrated following sterling work by Britain’s National Hi-Tech Crime Unit (NHTCU). Commenting on the conviction of the depraved Labour Party beast, NHTCU Deputy Head, Mick Deats said: “This man had some of the worst images on his computers that officers from this unit have ever viewed”.

. Tory Party councillor and former Mayor (Wrexham), Michael Morris - Convicted and put on probation for 2 years, for the indecent assault of another man, which was captured on CCTV.

. Labour’s current Parliamentary Candidate (Reading East) Tony Page - Has 2 Convictions for Acts of Gross Indecency` in public toilets.

* The Labour Party in Calderdale has been plunged into a crisis as their lead candidate, and former Mayor of Hebden Royd, Stewart Brown, has been arrested on suspicion of child porn offences.

Labour Councillor and Deputy Council Leader (Northumberland), John Whiteman, who was also a senior member of the local police authority – Convicted and fined in 2002 for soliciting a prostitute in the red light district of Middlesbrough. The court heard Whitman was arrested in his car as Police discovered him in a “state of undress” with a lady of the night he had just paid Ł35 for sex. He subsequently resigned from the council.

Labour Councillor (Stoke/Staffordshire), Michael Barnes, put forward a motion in July 2004 to change the constitution of Stoke-on-Trent Council. The proposed amendments were designed to prevent the City’s two British National Party councillors from chairing any committees, so as to `protect` the good citizens of Stoke from the beastly BNP types they’d voted for in huge numbers to represent them. As Mr Barnes explained to the local paper, the move was “to prevent the BNP from exerting more influence”, and was “in the best interests of the people of Stoke-on-Trent”. A few months later, in November 2004, the civic-minded and virtuous Councillor Barnes appeared at North Staffordshire Magistrates Court, to face seven different charges relating to child pornography

Labour Councillor (Durham), Derrick Payne – Arrested by Police following a sex attack

Labour Councillor and former Mayor (Halton/Cheshire), Liam Temple - Convicted in 2004 of `Inciting a child under 16 to commit an act of gross indecency` after the 58-year old Labour pervert had attempted to molest a 12-year old girl. During the case, the brave youngster told the court via a video link: “He said if I let him touch me he would give me money”.

Labour Councillor (Coxhoe/Durham), Les Sheppard – Convicted in 2004 on ten counts of indecent assault on young girls. Jailed for 2 years, and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years. Teeside Crown Court heard how 71 year old Cllr Sheppard lured his victims into his gold Porsche before driving them to remote spots, where he would submit them to sickening sex attacks. After his arrest, the Labour nonce-case told police “I love women, but you do things which you regret”. Sheppard’s `women` victims were between 9 and 13 years old.

According to media reports, the names of 2 former Labour Cabinet Ministers said to be `Household names` appear on the `Operation Ore` list of subscribers to hard-core child pornography. The same FBI investigation, which led to the arrest of rock star Pete Townshend. So who are they Mr. Blair?

Benson, who has a child of his own, repaid the fools who voted for him by storing his revolting kiddie porn collection on the computer provided for him by the council. Benson has been `suspended` - not expelled - by the Labour Party, which means his name remains on the Labour Party membership list, as well as on the sex offenders register. As to which is the more shameful – take your pick!

According to the `Sunday Mirror` (3/11/02), Diggert had admitted to having four underage girls that he was `grooming` for sex. Labour Councillor (Dagenham/London), Terry Power – Forced to resign in 1999 after being arrested and charged with sex attacks on teenage boys. Details of trial and conviction to follow.

Labour Councillor (Westlands/Worcestershire), Keith Rogers – Convicted, fined, and placed on the sex offender’s register in 2003, after downloading over 2,000 hardcore child porn photos on his computer

Labour councillor Ex-Paston councillor Gilbert Benn (48) A former city councillor was a five-year jail sentence for molesting an 11-year-old boy and threatening the youngster’s mother in a bid to cover his tracks.

A FORMER Wirral Tory councillor led a secret life looking at indecent images of children. While his wife and two daughters slept upstairs, Ian McKellar spent hours poring over child porn downloaded from the internet onto his computer. Ex-Tory councillor was sentenced after admitting child porn charges

Bob - I support UKIP because they are the ONLY UK party who have the guts to address the two issues which I personally regard as the most problematic and severely damaging to this country - Unfettered Immigration and our corrupt membership of the corrupt E.U.

Of course it matters, were they elected as convicted criminals or were investigations and convictions made whilst they were serving?...

Excuse me, are you suggesting that I'm unaware that MPs have ever been convicted of a crime before?

Not at all - I'm amused by the fact that your post was posted with the sole intention of discrediting UKIP but has failed miserably, because all it achieved was eliciting a response post from LT which shows that UKIP are virtual paragons of virtue when compared to the other parties.

Absolutely loving that the main defence of this is "UKIP are fine because everyone else is awful too" . Most excellent comeback.

Labour and the Tories being full of rancid old paedophiles, sadly for U Kippers, doesn't change the fact that UKIP is demonstrably full of racists, homophobes and misogynists.

Its not that these people have committed crimes. It's fairly evident that some of these other crimes are far WORSE than these UKIP allegations. What is important, though, is that while more serious, these actions don't have the same sorts of political implications as, for example, racially motivated violence and links to fascist organisations.

In other words, the heinous crimes listed for these other MPs speak volumes about their individual characters. Awful, awful people. But with the UKIP revelations, it's the fact that repeatedly, a very specific type of person with very specific prejudices and temperaments are drawn to that party like moths to a flame.

Now just to pre-emptively address some outrage: I'm not saying that ALL UKIP supporters are that sort of person. I'm just saying that that sort of person finds their political "home" with UKIP, and it would be a bare faced lie to pretend there isn't a reason for that.

Essentially the conclusion is drawn thus: most people are pretty vile, especially the ones drawn to politics

It's a contemporary issue in the news, it was offered for discussion is all. This is news and serious debates, it's news.
LT has not clarified whether or not those he listed were convicted prior to election so can't be used as an appropriate comparison here.

Bloody hell theres a few people feeling a bit butthurt and getting very over defensive in here.
Pretty laughable really a group of bigots lauded for calling a spade a spade when its obvious they spend all their time trying to dodge being called out for what they really are.
I would never condemn anyone looking for an alternative to the plebfest of a goverment that we are currently suffering but UKIP have proved time and time again what they really are.
Have a nice day.

Yes they are. But again, let's not pretend that the specific type of "vile" they are doesn't influence which party they will be drawn to. UKIP - rightly or wrongly - has a reputation as a party that will support xenophobic, homophobic and misogynistic political views. A "Football hooligan" party, if you will. Did it start this way? Had that reputation been gained because of slanderous media manipulation? That's debatable, however, it also doesn't matter.

Use the allegory of a pub. Once a pub has gained a reputation as being "rough" or "dodgy" - for ANY reason, even if it was a lovely little place before - the inevitable consequence is that it will start to attract rough and dodgy punters. Fast forward, and the pub becomes a self fulfilling prophesy, as the good old regulars are driven out to be replaced with yet more dodgy bastards who feel at home somewhere rough.

Of course you'll get the odd cantankerous old coot hanging on for dear life in the corner, supping his whiskey and saying "this used to be a good place with good folks!", but it doesn't change the fact that it's become a sh*thole.

And to bastardise Orwell; "All politicians are equally vile, but some politicians are more equally vile than others.”

You raise an interesting point here in the way that certain types of heinous people are drawn to particular career paths. Its not so much that UKIP supports or encourages the activities of these people, its just that those people feel they will have more success in achieving their aims under that banner.

Each are trying to get in to positions of influence to further their own aims, like paedo's join up with youth organisations or violent or corrupt thugs join the police force.

Its not beyond the wit of man these days to do the type of checks applied to teachers etc across a broad spectrum of careers to flush these people out.

Yes, and like I said I think it eventually becomes self-fulfilling. The more of those people who are drawn there and start to climb the ranks, the "truer" their belief that it's the right place becomes, as they help each other along the way and invite more of their associates to join them.

That's when it starts to become an issue. It doesn't matter what the leaders want or say or what it says in a written manifesto, if the party is becoming infected with a certain mindset at the ground level.

With UKIP I think it would be very optimistic to continue to claim that it isn't happening and that those people aren't there. In fact, surely anyone who supports a party's baseline policies should want to acknowledge such rising damp in order to deal with it before it takes hold completely?

Though I personally think it's probably too late for that with UKIP. The reputation is there and isn't going to change, and those people have flocked to it.
