I wondered if it had something to do with people watching open-water swimming at the Olympics.

The 2 year old who was swept off rocks with her Dad has now died as well, such a tragedy for that family

waves are very unpredictable and every now and then one will come in at twice the size and reach when its stormy. Sneaker waves are very common in certain stretches of beaches

The sea is a really dangerous place to swim. Saying that though i love swimming in the sea and the only place i have ever had the fear put into me is the fake beach in Barcelona that was manmade for the 92 Olympics but is now really dangerous.
You can paddle out 3-5 feet just fine then it is like stepping off a cliff with Jagged rocks below and rip tides that scared the **** out of me.

That place is deadly and you would never know. No warnings no Lifeguards nothing i saw a few people pulled out of the sea there by members of the public.

They were saying on the news that the sands have rolling dunes, and when the tide comes in it can create areas of deep water.

Yes so much sand
the sea comes in round the back of them
if only they were not so far out.

There are signs at the start of the beach.

That's horrific, I can't understand why something as dangerous as that wasn't signposted? The families will sue and I can't blame them

I was at the beach last week and there were some swimmers who came round the corner from out of nowhere onto the beach. They each had a large fluorescent float attached to them with a 10-foot rope dragging behind them in the water and if they needed to stop for a minute, they pulled it in and used it for support (it had handles on the sides). I've never seen one before but I was thinking, that's a really sensible safety precaution? Should be standard for swimming in the sea IMO. For one it clearly marked their location and, and it could also be used to stay afloat if anyone got into trouble.

It's a shame they have to wait for deaths to happen before putting this in place, there was already a petition with 4000 sigs on it before the recent tragedies
