I think Marcus is more David Brent than David Brent. Drinking out of puddles, fighting 100 men and then having the bottom of his feet come off, telling Tom the bit of his body that was wrong when doing karate was hit with a big stick, pulling a lorry with his bellend ........ it just goes on. The thing is he has absolutely no inkling that he is David Brent and will probably never get the irony. His browbeating of Noirin to make her think she cannot survive without him is classic inecurity on his part. If Noirin and Siavash get it on the top of his head will melt. The most endearing thing about Marcus is that he has no idea at all he is a tool.

Mario took himself incredibly seriously, he was not joking at all imo. He really did believe his own hype.

It's so hard to know for sure re Marcus. I've watched him closely and a few times when he's said something ridic he's almost laughed. It's like he's saying mad **** to see how other folk respond. Seeing what he can get away with. An Ali G job. Like he's ripping the pish out of them. I mind he was talking to bea about hygiene and he told her and a few others he drank puddle water. It was a dead pan delivery but his face nearly cracked into what coulda been a laugh. who knows. bea and the rest swallowed it though.

A little misunderstanding here over what constitutes an "Alpha" in a primate social group.
Marcus is not in fact an "Alpha Male" - though he tries very hard to be.
The person who behaves in a true Alpha fashion is actually Mr Lisa, She does little, just sits in her throne (no-one else takes her "centre seat" at the Bus Stop) while her troupe fuss around her, coming and going, delivering up gossip and ciggies, and she only stirs herself for the task of roaring out defence and defiance when required.
Marcus on the other hand, constantly needs to chivvy and coax and brainwash his troupe into keeping online; he WANTS to be Alpha, but he is in fact more suited to a "Beta" role of enforcer.

Significantly, the BB House's "Alpha" female will not partner the wannabe Alpha Male, and is sniffing around both Tom & Siavash in hopes of finding a better candidate.
As with most BB shows, there is simply no-one there with the characteristics of a true Alpha.

For anyone who has a real interest in such thing, you should check out Jane Goodall's primate studies in Gombe, particularly with reference to the power struggle between "Freud" & "Frodo" (Marcus is "Frodo")

Useless but interesting titbit: Frodo the chimpanzee is famous for murdering a human.
