The Spice Girls will reportedly reform to launch the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The move is the brainchild of music mogul Simon Fuller, who was involved in their early career and helped turn the group into one of the most iconic girl bands in British history.
Fuller, 49, told the Sunday Mirror that demand for the Spice Girls remained high. "They stand for so much in British music history and I can't think of a better time for them to get back together for another performance," he said.
The group, made up of Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell, formed in 1994 and went on to sell more than 65 million records worldwide before splitting in 2000.
A reunion tour last year netted them more than £40 million, with Fuller hinting that a final jaunt could be on the cards. "They will not want to be performing hits like 'Wannabe' in their 40s, but it's amazing how often people talk about another reunion. And I think if they do it, it’s going to be in 2012," he said.
personal im not a big fan of the spice girls but I think the could put on a good show

I volunteered last September and had my interview on 13th Feb - so I've got my fingers crossed I'll be selected. If so, I'll be part of the team delivering the results. If I don't get selected, I'll attend somehow - would be a crying shame not to as I live about 40 mins away!

To be fair we were just being greedy to want to host 2 major sports events in the space of 6 years in one decade. The Olymics is more then enough. It is not like the UK needs anymore publicity.
I was never a fan of football I found it dull and boring. I once descibed it as 'People kicking a ball round a pitch'.

What a load of bollocks.
As if the World Cup wasn't bad enough last Summer, 2012 will be spoilt by the English priding themselves in how amazing it is their country has been picked to host such a dull event.

Its not about the country, its about one of the biggest sporting events in the world taking place right at your doorstep. Ireland will even recieve an economic boost from this. People getting cheap flights to and from here to England to save money.
No better place to stage the Olympics lets be honest London is the Capital of the World it's almost a perfect fit we have prepared better then anyone in recent years for it and we at the moment probably have the best all round Athletics arguably with America

28-08-2011, 09:52 AM
yeah whats with all these experienced athletes messing up?
Probably pressure it's a huge event and you only have 1 chance to get it right it's pretty weird though because in some events if you go to early you only get shown a yellow and then if anyone in the field goes to early after that they got DQ'd even though someone else might have messed up the first time
Iceman
28-08-2011, 10:06 AM

Yeah that was the shotput i think she has done great in 3/4 events so far just the high jump has let her down so far but even then she got 2nd best think she wanted to go one further though it's amazing how fast she can run as well when you look at most of the great athletics they tend to be massive but she is a great sprinter

What happened in the 1500m?
Jessica Ennis took silver after failing to overhaul Tatyana Chernova's 133-point lead in the 800m in the defence of her world heptathlon title.
Ennis needed to finish at least nine seconds clear of the Russian in the final event to take gold.
Despite leading for most the race and setting a personal best, Ennis finished less than a second ahead of her rival.
Ennis had led the competition before throwing a disappointing 39.95m in the penultimate event - the javelin.
"I came here to win gold. It started off poorly and I got it together but unfortunately the javelin was a big disaster," she told Channel 4.
"If I had to do it anywhere, it's here because it's next year where I want gold.
"I knew it would be very, very difficult. I was being realistic, but I had to give it everything and leave everything on the track and that's what I did.
"The javelin let me down. I'll go away and work really hard at it and come back stronger next year."

what the **** :joker: there not official posters though are they?
I thought so but I dunno actually, here's the article about it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-15593109
A series of 12 Olympic and Paralympic posters, designed by leading UK artists including Tracey Emin and Chris Ofili, has been unveiled in London.
The images will be displayed in a free exhibition at Tate Britain next year, held as part of the London 2012 cultural festival.
Tate director Sir Nicholas Serota said organisers were "delighted" the artist had produced "such compelling images".
The unveiling followed the announcement of the arts festival's full programme.
The six Olympic posters have been designed by Ofili, Martin Creed, Anthea Hamilton, Howard Hodgkin, Bridget Riley and Rachel Whiteread.
Their Paralympic counterparts are the work of Emin, Fiona Banner, Michael Craig-Martin, Gary Hume, Sarah Morris, and Bob and Roberta Smith - a pseudonym for the artist Patrick Brill.
The artists were encouraged to celebrate the Games coming to London and to look at the values of the Olympics and Paralympics.
The posters have such titles as Big Ben 2012, by Morris, Swimming, by Hodgkin, and Superhuman Nude, by Banner.
Does anyone know if anyone or anywhere that is selling Tickets to any of the football games? Prefer GB matches but don't mind

World Indoors: Britain's Yamile Aldama wins triple jump gold
Britain's Yamile Aldama won gold at the age of 39 with a stunning performance in the triple jump at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul.
Aldama got everything right on her second jump to set a season's best of 14.82m and that was never threatened.
Despite injuring herself on her third failed attempt, the closest anyone could get to her was 14.63m, which earned Olga Rypakova of Ukraine silver.
Dwain Chambers will defend his 60m title at 1800 GMT.
Shara Proctor earlier broke her own British record on the way to reaching Sunday's long jump final, recording a leap of 6.86m in the second round to beat her previous mark by six centimetres.
Andrew Osagie qualified for the 800m final by finishing second in his semi-final, but Joe Thomas missed out. Robbie Grabarz cleared 2.29m to reach the high jump final, but it proved too much for team-mate Samson Oni.
Britain's men's 4x400m relay team - Conrad Williams , Luke Lennon-Ford , Michael Bingham and Richard Buck - were the fastest qualifiers for their final, 0.02 seconds ahead of their United States rivals.
Meanwhile, teenager Andy Pozzi won his 60m hurdles heat, while also progressing to the semi-finals were Asha Philip and Jodie Williams in the women's 60m.
Proctor reached the world outdoor long jump final with her native Anguilla in 2009, before switching to represent Britain in November 2010.
She has UK citizenship as Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory, and said: "Thank God I've qualified, that's a weight lifted off my shoulders.
"I didn't expect to jump that far, I just expected to jump far enough to get into the final.
"Now I just have to go out there and jump. Ideally I'd like to get a medal, jump a national record. You've got to reach for the stars."

I think there should be an Olympics sub-forum made for the duration of the games, then we could have different threads for different types of events eg. a running thread, a throwing thread, so that we're not all sat in one thread discussing completely different ****.

Any one else a Games Maker volunteer? I'm based at North Greenwich Arena, on the IT team delivering the results. My first shift is on 28th July. Also going to Technical Rehearsal for the opening ceremony on 25th July at Olympic Park. The uniform, however, is horrendous!

TBF, since what day was it when we won our first gold medal?
We won at least 2 daily, I was fully expecting a decline, but did expect a potential medal in show-jumping, hopefully the girl who ensured our Gold in Dressage does well.
Apparently Shazane is 4th and could potentially be going out already, I thought she is one of our remaining favourites for gold? What happened?
Bloody hell does the dressage ever end

So far we have a gold/bronze... with our last brit to come up and a dutch.
But we do have a medal guaranteed... it just depends on what.
But Charlotte is a threat, if the Dutch comes 4th then we definitely have two medals.

Charlotte Dujardin (GBR) 8/13
Laura Bechtolsheimer (GBR) 9/4

The Netherlands go first :(
