If marcus is a thinker, he should have known that noirin will never be with him. It is as set as the sand on the beach.

Noirin is a free woman, she can listen or do anything she likes.

This is nothing but pure controlling behavior, he expects noirin to behave in a certain manner that is to his liking. Pathetic.

Noirin has always listened to Marcus, even though she doesn't fancy him, and while I agree there can be some truth to what he said it is not always the case.

I think Tom's acheivement in life shows he most certainly is not a twit (job, education etc) - whereas Marcus's much lower level of achievement - both career wise and on a personal level - speak volumes about Marcus.

Please tell me (and be honest) why do you think Marcus was attracted to Noirin - so her looks had nothing to do with it?
