"frigger" is no Irish colloquialism.

Sounds like a made-up racist jibe to me.

How on earth have you interpreted frigger into a racist jibe?!

Frig is a schoolyard term for masturbating...nothing rasict in it

I've never heard that in school in Ireland, specifically Dublin where she's from.

And the racist interpretation is quite obvious. "Frigger"

Why would it matter if she'd masturbated :puzzled:

Frigger is an old fashioned name for a free slave and that remark from the OP could be construed as racist.

It's not Irish, it's nationwide. "Frig" is a colloquial term for masturbating... not just in Ireland. Just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean it isn't so.

As in, across the whole of the UK, it's not just part of Irish dialect.

That's what I thought you ment.

Can anyone from Dublin verify 'frigger' as a slang term used here?

'Frig' was most certainly 'masturbate' (specifically girls, but not exclusively) in the Dublin school I went to.

And, indeed, elsewhere:

I also think that it is entirely possible if that was her nickname that it was chosen for its 'rhyming qualities'. That doesn't make the OP of this thread racist, though.

Yes. Frig as a verb was very common - I can't say I recall 'frigger' so much, but 'frigging' for w*nking and 'frig off' instead of '****** off' were very common.

I don't know exactly where in Dublin Noirin is from - but unless it was one of the posh parts I'd say 'frigger' with the main meaning 'masturbator' is entirely possible. But, see my above post, I also would not put it past her classmates to be fully aware of the rhyming implication. But not the 'Free N*****' suggestion that is being made here. Not in Dublin 10 to 15 years ago. We simply didn't have the cultural diversity back then for that meaning to be known amongst kids.
