Why is it whenever a housemate thinks they're popular they develop some nasty personality traits?

I thought Marcus turned into a bit of a sap when he was chasing the big bad N and now she's gone he had the perfect opportunity to basically take over the show but he's turning into Lisa! The quiet lil bitching sessions, the 'I'm the boss' attitude, Marcus chill your boots! :wink:
