Its called cold reading. Its very psychological. Basically they play with your mind. They give you a lot of vague information where the mind then fills in the blanks and reconstructs itself to think "she told me that ______". If you went with a completely sceptical view you would come out thinking different things.

People shouldn't be cynical if they've never been. You have no cluw how freakingly accurate they get some stuff. I went once and it completely freaked me out!

Good luck with your fame Michael :P

I have been and when you don't think of anything none of actually means anything. A lot of the stuff she said was very vague and could be easily be guessed by someone off the street. But ones who can describe dead relatives down to a tee are very odd ...

I don't hold much in p-s-y-c-h-i-c-s, they have a a way of twisting their own words to fall into place with your mind's assumptions.

Tom's right. They're fun to go to when you know their tricks, and call them out on it they get rather stumble-y and baffled.

You'll be famous if you want it enough, though.

I don't believe in psychics, it's mostly cold reading with perhaps a pinch of intuition.

Cold reading can only work to a degree. There has been physics out there who go really into the deep stuff in terms of dead family members and produce amazing stuff.

The problem is there is FAR too many of them in the UK. There is no way to prove it or disprove it. But if it is a gift, then far too many people have it.

But we possibly all have this gift in the brain, it's just not many people know how to use it.

You could be famous for miss-spelling psychics.

A lot of what is said about cold reading is true, but do not forget Hot Reading, when the fraud / cheat scam artist (Sorry psychic) researches you in depth.

The problem is that these frauds make loads of guesses and the punters remember the hits and forget the misses.

Imagine you have a handfull of darts and throw them at a regular dart board. Some are bound to hit the bullseye, and people will say that's amazing, overlooking there may be many darts that don't even hit the dart board.

They only see the hits.

That is how cold reading works

There's a great discussion on youtube between Derren Brown and Richard Dawkins, explaining how 'psychics' and cold reading works, it's 6 parts

Eugh... it is beyond me why anyone would want to be famous. If thats your life goal then that is pretty pathetic, you basically want everyone to know you and worship you and follow every move, I hope you do get famous and you realise how much you really don't want to be famous.

you realise how much you really don't want to be famous.

That's what happens with a lot of celebrities. Now they're in, they want to get out of it and regret it big time.
What's so fun about being famous anyway ? I'd rather be recognised as a good worker in my field because I have achieved something than being famous for showing my vagina and my boobs or singing some cr*p after being on a Reality TV show. It's way more rewarding.

My daughter was planning her wedding, when her fiance took her and some friends to Blackpool. Just for a laugh they went to see a psychic. It wasnt expensive. She told her friends some things that were very near the mark and they went away fairly happy. When my daughter went in, she told her she would be getting married inthe next2 years although it was sooner than that my daughter thought it was a pretty obvious thing to say as she was wearing an engagement ring. But when she described the man he was totally different. Then she told her three initials which meant nothing to her

Some months down the line she told me the wedding was off and the house was up for sale. As time went by she bought another lad home , completly different to anyone else she had been out with. When she told me his name i greeted him then she took me in the kitchen and said his full name. The initials that she had been to before and even in the same order.

Theyve ow been happily married for 3 years

Exactly, I mean I know I am training to be an actor but in no way do I want to be famous or do commercial acting. I am more interested in experimental/abstract theatre. It is so much more rewarding when people praise you for the art than a big pay cheque and a load of ass lickers.

There is also the possibility of self full filling prophecy. If she had never been to that reading, would things have shaken out as they did?

Did the reading alter what was to be on a subconscious level?

Yeah but that is what you get when this subject comes up.

One of the problems i would have with Cold reading or hot reading what ever it's called is you can only go to a certain degree with it. I have heard some amazing stories which would simply be impossible via cold reading or hot reading.

You should also go on youtube and watch a v short little documentary video on the ghosts of Ireland and they do a famous castle, it held a famous wedding once and they have some amazing stories.

One being that the groundsman who worked on the grounds, died in the castle on the floor with some one with him, family members i think were coming up the drive to go into the castle and they claim they seen him working along the hedges and even spoke to him but he was dead at that time. Sent chills up my back. It's one of the reasons im open minded and not a skeptic.

That is how cold reading works Sorry but I'm not convinced. I'm not going to go into what she said, but they were way to accurate. So spooky! It would be impossible to guess! Absoloutley!

Jeez, the support and good luck's I've gotten in here have been overwhelming.

I never said that I wanted to be famous, or that was my dream. Because it's not. I want to be an actor and make music, and I'm hoping that my fame goes along with being respected as an actor and a musician. But when she said that, I got pretty happy because, why not? I should have some fun with it!

P.S, Thanks to Twilight and a few others! :D
