View Full Version : Alexandra Burke - Bad Boys (feat. Flo Rida) (Official Video)

MarkWaldorf
08-08-2009, 11:04 PM
It has been confirmed that Alexandra Burke's first single will be called "Bad Boys".

The single has been distributed amongst certain music reviewers in the past week.

Reviewer's have said the song is uptempo, got a catchy chorus and has a similar feel to Sugababe's new single "Get Sexy" leading to some people assuming it's produced by The Smeezingtons.

Alexandra is currently in LA finished her debut album as well as making the video for the first single and doing the album shoot.

The album is expected to be released in October and will feature productions from Jay-Z, Stargate, RedOne and Timbaland as well as a possible Beyoncé duet.

The single and the video premier next month.

Alexandra confirmed via Twitter her debut single will be called 'Bad Boys' and will feature a collaboration with Flo Rida! It is expected to premiere very soon!

So excited!

Judging by the producers I'm guessing her music's going to be very American.

Who have her producers worked with? It will be good if it sounds American I suppose, Brits love it anyway and more importantly it'll sell in the States

EDIT: Stupid post, just seen the producers :blush2: If shes worked with Timbaland she is going to do v well

LOL hopefully. RedOne seems to be doing really well lately too, what with the whole Lady Gaga fad. If her songs are catchy enough she should do well.

Looking forward to this.

I really wanted her to go down the R&B route rather than follow in the footsetps of Rihanna,Britney and Beyonce and release an album full of soulless Hip Pop.
But anyway im sure it'll be catchy so im excited to hear what she(or should i say her label) have come up with.

I'm surprised, I thought they might have gone in a Rihanna esque route but I was thinking it would have been more likely to take a Leona route since Simon Cowell doesn't like risks and just loves the mumsy target audience.

I thought Simon would have wanted her a more Leona type, but he also doesn't want her to be called a rip-off of Leona. I'm very happy she's gone for the more up-tempo hip-hop stuff!

BLOODY HELL THE ALEXANDRA BURKE SINGLE IS PHENOMENAL
We have some phonecalls and things to do but will tell you about it properly a bit later.

http://www.popjustice.com/images/stories/j/alexandrasinglesleeve.jpg

In the meantime:

» 140bpm
» Sirens
» 'Womanizer'-meets-'Biology' intro

Literally amazing.

I LOVE THE ALEXANDRA LOGO

Think of 'Hallelujah', then think of the opposite.

Some important points here, in no particular order:

» The single is called 'Bad Boys' and it features US rap gentleman Flo Rida.

» The writing credits are Larry Summerville Jr, Busbee, Lauren Evans and Alexander James. The song is produced by The Phantom Boyz.

» The song's intro is a brilliant hybrid of the intros to Britney's 'Womanizer' and Girls Aloud's 'Biology' (ie it's quite noisy and exciting sounding) except with Flo Rida shouting over the top and a demented elasticated siren effect bouncing from speaker to speaker. The track's definitely in the same ball park as things like 'Womanizer', but with a slightly more euphoric disco feel.

» 'Bad Boys' is about Alexandra fancying dangerous men. "Some people call them players but I'm far from terrified," she says in the song's opening lines, "somehow I'm drawn to danger and have been all my life." The nature of these boys' actual 'badness' is not specifed. We're not sure if it's Josef Fritzl level badness or just 'has three points on his driving licence after doing 37 in a 30 zone'. Probably the latter, on reflection. Still, imagine the video for the former.

» The chorus has a really strong melodic topline - the lyrics are "the bad boys are always catching my eye, the mad boys are always spinning my mind, even though I know they're no good for me it's the risk I take for the chemistry, and the bad boys are always catching my eye".

» This is NOT A BALLAD. This is THE OPPOSITE OF A BALLAD. (Mind you it would probably lend itself quite well to one of those stripped down piano versions that seem to be all the rage these days.) We estimate this song to be about 140bpm and HIGHLY DANCEABLE. Alex's vocals sound very Whitneyish in parts and this is the sort of song we'd like to imagine Donna Summer coming out with if she was twenty years old in 2009. Sadly she is not twenty years old in 2009. She is far older.

» Flo Rida is in two parts of this song - the intro ("FLO RIDA! ALEXANDRA GIRL I KNOW WHAT YOU LIKE!" yeah alright calm down mate) and the middle eight. The middle eight is Flo explaining to the listener to just what an extent Alexandra Burke is actually fond of 'bad boys' and badness in general. One particularly earth-shattering moment comes with the announcement that "with even the alphabet she only sings the crooked letters". (Amazing.)

» In terms of vocal acrobatics 'Bad Boys' has a singy chorus but it's not a 'look at me I'm a singer' chorus, and the same goes for the rest of the track. It works briliantly - sometimes we can't help but feel (this is probably just us but still) that there's something quite exciting about an incredible singer being forced to follow a very strong and melodic topline instead of going all over the show. It's like pop singer bondage. *Cut to shot of Eoghan Quigg wanking with orange in mouth*

» There's no fade at the end, just an amazing BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BAD BOYS BAD BOYS which will hopefully be accompanied by an eyebrow-burning quantity of pyrotechnics when Alexandra turns up to The X Factor in order to warble the tune on the day of its release.

» 'Bad Boys' is out on October 12. As is the modern way, Alexandra has also recorded an 'album' - a dozen or so songs grouped together - and that will be released on October 26. You can hear 'Bad Boys' tomorrow morning on Chris Moyles' Radio One breakfast show.

» We have listened to this song 41 times since it arrived in the post earlier today. It's basically brilliant.

That's a bit of unfair comment considering they're fairly different. Alexandra is a lot more comfortably versatile, whilst Leona sticks to what she's good at, so it depends on how you're judging who's better.
Besides, considering Alexandra's yet to release her album, you're judging her on two singles.

Im judging them on their voices, IMO Alexandra is not as good as everyone makes her out to be

MiuMiu

People who think she's like Leona are wrong.
For a starter, she has a lower register voice in the same vain as Toni Braxton or whitney Houston and can actually dance.
Leona has yet to release an as uptempo a song as Alexandra's "Bad Boys".
"Forgive me" was half as fast and all she did was prance down a street, walk in the rain, and sit on a chair while the people in the background danced.

And those who are making the comparisons with Rihanna are also wrong IMO.
Alexandra is a MUCH better singer, and again, can dance, unlike Rihanna.
Rihanna only really danced in two of her videos; "If it's Lovin' that you want" which was a way slower song then "Bad Boys" and so the dancing was less involved and in "SOS" where it was less choreographed dancing and more weak free styling which could've been done by anyone. In "Ponda Replay", she kinda just stood on a box and moved her stomach up and down and around. In "Umbrella", she walked around with an umbrella back and over pretty much, maybe swinging it around from time to time.
Also, "Bad Boys" doesn't sound like aything Rihanna has ever released.

If you really want to make comparsons, I would say that Alexandra is much more like Beyonce or Keri Hilson then Leona or Rihanna.

But if you really take notice (with Beyonce being the exception), the girls of Rn' B who can sing great can't usually dance, for instance Mariah, Whitney, Rihanna, Leona, Jennifer Hudson etc

And the girls that can't really sing are really great dancers i.e. Ciara, Christina Milian, Cassie, Amerie, Britney etc.

So Alexandra is a rearity in the music world at the mo in that she can sing and dance.
It's only her, Beyonce, Aguliera and Gaga who can do the two well.

I've never understood the Leona/Alexandra comparison. They're 2 females with big voices and thats where it ends. Alexandra's is much more soulful and powerful but Leona's is a lot softer and she has a bigger range and can do more.

I'd say Alex is to Whitney what Leona is to Mariah, I think thats a fairer comparison

Not to keen on the song, good video though its nice to see something a bit better than seeing her walk about or something. But I like the route shes gone down, its better than her doing ballad after ballad

My fav of that year was Rachel Hylton. If I was a producer I'd want her to record every Nina Simone song I could get my hands on. She's a rough diamond, I'm telling you.

^Ya same Setanta.
I wouldn't go jumping to make comparisons too quickly just yet.
It's her first single like.

But she's still fab!

I remember when I was in Derry with a few of my friends it happened to be the day that Eoghan Quigg had his homecomming gig before the final of the x factor last year.
We just stood there at his concert and shouted "Rachael Hylton to WIN!!!" over and over again.
We nearly got stoned to death by all of his pre-teen obsessive fan cult.
:laugh2:

Laura was excellent last year also. An so was that spanish lady.
Rachael got a raw deal I feel last year. Dannii completely ruined her.

I love her voice... it has this raw energy about it.... electrifying when she's given the right song. She was the best singer on the Hero single too, by a long long way.
