Britney Spears, without a doubt. Not only is she the best selling female artist of this decade, but she really defined pop music and has become so iconic.

Biggest ones and who defined this decade were Britney Spears, Coldplay and Eminem plus maybe nsync/Justin Timberlake.

I don't think you can really define the noughties as a music genre like you can in the past. Since the 1950's we've been able to use just the one genre e.g. 60's about rock, 70's and 80's about disco and the 90's was all about Europop. Its been mixed this decade

Princess

Well it's had indie phases and crappy repetive R 'n' B phases,I don't really remember the early noughties. There was the start of all the reality shows and then all the bands reformed as well (woop). It's been a good decade, just the music can't be known as the whatever era because there wasn't just one.

Zac

Lady Gaga.

Oh god how much i love SOAD. I Think the genre that defines this decade is indie tbh... its really grown in popularity and it has the 'cool' label attached too it. Pop music has thankfully started to die out and the more interesting songs are getting noticed.

Indie only popped up for about a year or two though around 2006, then it died on its arse pretty spectacularly. Dance & RnB was more definitive of the decade at the start and has been making a reappearance lately, that would be more defining than indie

I suppose, Indie still takes over a lot of radio though.

I agree with pretty much every person that you guys listed except for Miley Cirus, Lady Gaga and company. Lady Gaga only became famous LAST YEAR.

Get real they have no business being on that list. To have made this decade, you should at least have to be an active artist for 5 years.

People I'll also add to the list..

Mariah Carey
Backstreet Boys
N'Sync
50 Cent
Lil Wayne
Enrique Iglesias
Jay-Z
Nas
Jennifer Lopez
Janet jackson
Nickleback
Akon
Black Eye Peas

Destiny's Child & Beyonce
Britney
Christina Aguilera
Madonna
Eminem
Disney
Paramore [and assorted other emo bands but they stick out]
Jennifer Lopez
Justin Timberlake
Avril Lavigne [she has had SUCH huge effect on music with people still copying her early still today]
Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis and Will Young as the headliners of the reality stars
The Killers
Mariah Carey [talk about the mother of all comebacks]
Missy Elliott [most successful female rapper?]
Gwen Stefani & No Doubt
Shakira
Pussycat Dolls

anyone who said the likes of Duffy, Taylor Swift, Lady GaGa...just no.

I like her a lot. but she has not under any circumstance defined this decade. She's barely defined 2009. The afore mentioned artists have been revolutionary. GaGa hasn't changed anything she's just lightly shocked a few people - most of those people being people who knew **** all of music outside the Top 40 anyway.

Okay then maybe there have been other bigger artists over the past 10 years but I can't believe you said she has 'barely defined 2009'. That's crazy, 2009 is the year of Gaga and she's probably the biggest-selling artist of this year.

Z

Uffff, it's hard to define, this decade hasn't really been any particular "theme", it's been a mixed bag. Indie music, electro pop and girl bands have had a good run in recent years, I can't think to the earlier half of the decade though.

she had a good run but her star is fading already. depending on how LoveGame does, which I don't think will be very good, we shall see.

Yep, I think it's all about LoveGame now. She's already starting to fade quite a bit so if this does well she's still gonna be huge but if it flops she's a gonner. I can see it being quite big though, hopefully. We'll see.

No Doubt hardly made this decade seeing as they [unfortunately[ haven't been relevant in 5 years and havent done anything particularly groundbreaking since the 90's. Patrick Wolf is imo awesome but hasn't even put a dent in this decade, never mind 'made' it.

Whilst I agree it's been mixed, every decade has been.

90s wasn't all about europop. There was grunge, pop, trance, hip hop, R&B...

80s saw disco, yes, but there was also electronic, pop, metal...
