I really dislike the use of that alarm. I find it quite distressing really. Maybe I'm taking it all to seriously but I really do object to it. I can't be the only one.

It is a really horible choice, I agree. It affects something in us all, I know that's probably the idea, so they can't ignore it, but that does not justify its use.

they use the baby crying as it's one of the most distressing sounds you can hear. that's the whole point of using it as an alarm, coz you can't sleep through it

if you have had to get up to it in real life long enough you dont want to hear it on some tv show

I think they actually have a baby on a microphone, and they are making it cry until everyone is out of bed.

Thread is silly, thread starter do you get just as upset when those children toys cry as well?

I think those who have criticised misunderstand me. Plus I think a baby toy is a bit different from a real baby. I was trying to say that I find that particular cry quite upsetting as it sounds like a distressed cry. I guess it's just my maternal instinct. I didn't mean anything by it.

I agree. Its very distressing and I don't even want to think about how that recording was obtained in the first place.

Oh please!!

I expect a baby was crying and they recorded it.

Babies cry - a lot. Even the ones, like mine, whose mums say 'aw, she didn't cry much at all' spend about a third of their waking time crying in some way or other. It is just about their only means of communication.

so how was that recording obtained - a person with a baby walked into a room with a microphone and they let nature take its course!

Babies cry as a form of lung circulation a lot of the time, it's hardly the sound of a grown man belting a baby over the feet with a steel bar.
