View Full Version : Do people find panic attacks funny?

Vicky.
11-08-2009, 11:05 PM
Simple question simple answers.

I have seen people thinking it is hilarious that freddie was reduced to having a panic attack...now in order to find out if these people are being serious that they find such a condition funny, or if they are just saying it because they hate freddie...i thought i would make this poll.

Answer honestly please.

Do you think it is funny for people, in general, to suffer panic attacks?

No my friend suffers from them, they can be quite scary

Brad.

No, not funny. freddie however reduced himself to a pathetic fool tonight

That is such a silly question, it is like asking if we like eating shite. Of course panic attacks are horrible. I have suffered from them. Anyone who claims to find them funny has a screw loose.

Honestly ?

All depends if the person is really having one, or just faking it to manipulate whatever it is they are wanting to get the sympathy vote from

My partner does also. Usually mild ones, but every now and again a really bad one where he cant even stand to have me anywhere near him, he hides in the corner of the room convinced he is dying...its horrible.

Well if you think that was a panic attack then quite frankly you need help more than people who find them funny.

As I've said in a few threads that was not a panic attack. He was very upset/annoyed/frustrated. He would have been much worse if it was a genuine panic attack. He played on it for sympathy because he knew he was likely to be up.

I agree, it's disgraceful the way people are treating what heppened with Freddie tonight.

As someone who has suffered from them from years I have only sympathy for Freddie (the same as I would if it had been any other HM). Panic attacks are horrible, scary, and it's near impossible to stop one once it starts.

Freddie thinks he has the public on his side, why would he need to..

Panic attacks are bloody frightening and not something which should be mocked, I think there are some people on here who are just sceptical, the guy did seem genuinely distressed.

If you mean Freddie, that wasn't a panic attack, was it? More a sulk. Panic attacks are much worse than that. You hyperventilate and get cold sweats and panic and don't know what to do. You literally feel yourself drown in them.

Someone prone to such attacks would be screened out of the show in the assessment stage. You'd hope so anyway.

I'm frankly amazed and a bit ashamed at some of the reactions on here tbh.

Who the **** is anyone to judge what is and what isn't a panic attack?

They are totally individual to the person that is having them, they affect sufferers in different ways and can be controlled in some cases, not in others, can range in severity and be brought on by the mildest of things at times.

Having suffered with varying levels of anxiety and panic attacks for years, you can tell when you know what one feels and looks like whether someone is faking or not and Freddie was not faking. He had a completely physical reaction to the way Bea was attacking him, he could barely speak, his breathing was all over the place and he was becoming more and more agitated to the point where he asked her to leave him alone.

I'm not going to reply to any more of these posts because it's actually making me quite upset to see how unfeeling and cold hearted some people can be, and to anyone who thinks that panic and anxiety is a big joke, I hope for your sake you never experience it.

I thought his distress seemed very real = if he felt anxious and panicked and upset to the point where he couldn't control his body's reaction then for him the panic attack was real. Panic attacks are horrid things and can range from someone in an almost catatonic state who is literally panicking inside their mind to all out physical one where its obvious to all that the individual is panicking.

Tom and others - if you think that he was not having panic attacks then you obviously no nothing about them or not enough:

Firstly, we only saw HLs (remember they edit stuff!!) so not enough footage to truly judge...

Secondly, it looked totally genuine to me, especially as Bea was trying at that point to see how he was (not genuinely so), so he could have used that moment to speak more, but instead he needed her out of there - he was scared and even I could feel a bit in my own belly! She IS scary

Thirdly, people can have panic attacks without anyone having any idea whatsoever...I have had a few big ones while lecturing and continued to lecture without anyone noticing.

First I was disgusted with Bea cruelty on the highlights, I thought at least, for once we could all be united on here in what happened and how uncomfortable it was to witness. But I am sickened at the cynicism and some of the comments about it. I barely care who wins any more and not sure about sharing a forum with some of these people who can be so cruel and actually find watching someone's clear distress amusing. Maybe I should make better use of the ignore button

Totally agree!

Halfwit is playing the game, setting the traps catching you all in them!

He caused himself to have a panic attack! No one did anything to make a normal person have one...

Quite clearly he is in no mental state to be there and should be evicted!

If you are a Freddie fan, an ex Freddie fan or a Freddie hater, evict him this Friday as everyone wins!

I suspect going into a catatonic state is the body's/mind's way of dealing with stress, and people who are prone to anxiety and panic go into this state to sedate themselves. So people who are sso sedate as to appear to be half-dead are actually quite anxious people with a crude coping mechanism.

OMG the naivete here is beyond words. BB were caught out, did not know what to do, and as it happens I think they made a wrong call. Although they clearly called him into the DR to check on him. And I hope that under the circumstances they used his real name. Honestly, you must have a shard of ice instead of a heart.

Im not using you to score brownie points.

I am pointing out the hypocrisy in your posts, and your disgusting views.

Totally different. If you are not using me ..why copy and paste from a different thread ?

Why post it if you are ashamed of your disgusting views?

I copied and pasted from another thread once I saw you say in your opinion he did not have a panic attack...i remembered I had seen you post the complete opposite elsewhere, so I quote both posts. I can assure you Vicky I am not ashamed of seeing through Freddie

Says nothing, they dont give a stuff about the mental states of the housemates, aslong as it is entertaining.

Plus he may have been on the verge of a panic attack. And thats why he told bea to leave.

OR he may have already had one and been in the diary room... Do you think bb would ignore Freddie if he was genuinly having a attack ?

I also stated other scenarios that may have happened, which we wouldnt know about. You convieniently seem to have ignored them. Since it goes against the whole 'he was faking' bollox My opinion ,as valid as your vicky

As I've said in a few threads that was not a panic attack. He was very upset/annoyed/frustrated. He would have been much worse if it was a genuine panic attack. He played on it for sympathy because he knew he was likely to be up.

No, I don't think they're funny. I've seen them happen many times and some can even seem like a Heart attack they're that bad. But, I do not believe Freddie had one earlier, he was just over reacting because he knows he can't even argue with Bea anymore, he's simply out of things to say to her or anybody. He's been reduced to a pathetic mess and that was just to try and gain some sort of sympathy.

I agree with you Vicky BB dont care about people in the house mental state they'll do anything for ratings but as I've said before I think Freddie is suffering some kind of mental breakdown and BB should take him out for his own good he wasn't faking anything tonight PS thanks for your U2U about your idea it was a good one but BB dont want decent ideas their trying to run the programme down and there making a good job of it.

I can't believe some of the things being posted on the forum tonight about Freddie, I really can't.

Panic attack or not (and I do believe he was showing symptoms of one, mild or not he was convulsing and that IS a symptom), the guy was clearly distressed, and in a state that very few people would be capable of faking.

I suffer with very bad anxiety and panic attacks and I hope to God some of you never have to go through it, though maybe some of you should, then come back and tell me it's funny and that it can be faked.

People's hatred of a game show contestant astounds me.

I'm actually speechless and that's a first for me.

Not funny at all, as I take them aswell but I think he was just upset and maybe at the start of one, when I take one I cant string a sentance together at all,but his behavior to Lisa(not a fan) could have led her to have one, he didn't care what his actions to her infront of the whole group would do to her. He was wrong last week Bea was wrong this week.

I've suffered with panic attacks on and off since I was about 13; I'm now 39. My aunt also had one panic attack where she called an ambulance fearing she was having a heart attack. Because I thought this was supposed to be a 'real' attack, I just put my own attacks down to tiredness.

I rarely had such strong palpitations but I had de ja veux which would feel my body with fear and panic. My heart would then race and my body shook. The attacks happened regularly at one stage of my life and I was extremely depressed and looked for ways to end my life.

To anyone reading this who has never experienced that feeling dread, would probably not understand how terrifying it feels. I rarely have panic attacks now as I have dealt with the demons that caused them in the first place; however, sometimes if a similar incident occurs or if I am just extremely tired and emotional, an attack will appear. I know how to deal with them and how to get through them.

I'm giving my experience in an aim to educate those who do not understand what panic attacks feel like. They vary from person to person and can be more severe in stressful environments.

It was obvious Freddie was in great distress and we only saw the edited highlights of Bea's rants. She destroyed Freddie and he was struggling to cope as his destroyer was a woman he admired and fancied! He wears his heart on his sleeve and has had to deal with a lot of crap during his time in the house and tonight's show was painful to watch as a viewer. Can you imagine what it was like for Freddie? Give him a break .

He was in absolute distress.

You can tell that Bea knows exactly what she did as she is spending her time justifying itself.

Freddie was not diagnosed with dyslexia until he was 13. As a teacher I can imagine exactly what he has been through. Tortured by other kids because he could not read.
When you grow up you can still suddenly be thrown back to one of these attacks.
I should know as I suffer from them.

The attitude from Lisa and Bea that Feddie knows nothing about life. How the hell do they know what he has been through.
Bea said he talked about his house only because she asked him about.
How many more times is Bea going to say she does not judge anyone.
No wonder Freddie had a panic attack easy to do when you suffer from Asthma.

I'm not a cold person at all, surely you can tell that by my reaction to seeing Freddie suffering tonight? And I'm not making anything out to be anything, I'm speaking from experience.

If that was a genuine panic attack, then he deserves some slack

But, i saw freddy go through far worse than what Bea has put him through, back when Kris and karly were around, and he seemed to cope back then.

I think the tears and sobbing were for Beas benefit, a passive-aggressive attempt to manipulate her, Bea either saw through it, or doesnt care

Yes well remembered Vicky (my brain has gone to mush tonight lol). Marcus clearly said that Freddie has had previous panicky episodes/attacks and that it was best to leave him to sleep it off.

For some reason BB has obviously chosen not to show this before, like a lot of other stuff this year it seems.

Well done Shasown.... knew I could trust you to just view it totally objectively. Think people have been influenced here by the obvious hatred that we all share for Bea. Easy to get caught up in it and blame her for all kinds of mad things, including crippling or hospitalising Halfwit.

She's a horror show and she intimidated and crushed him on T.V but lets get a grip people. He's not in the throes of a panic attack..... just hurt sad and angry.
