What are the Karma ratings for?

I've just joined this forum tonight,and noticed Karma ratings beside everyone's names. What are they for and how do they work?:conf:

People plus karma you if you make a good post.

People minus if you disagree with their opinion on something, thats why i turned mine off...sick of getting minused for nothing :spin:

BTW you have to have made over 100 posts to edit other peoples karma ;)

I just reckon for the most part I've contributed good posts while I've been on here and most people have agreed with a lot I've said I make 1 joke topic about someone and i get negative karma.
