Actually I was not a happy bunny this morning as they had stuck Helen in a newsroom all on her own watching BB on a small telly that early in the morning.

When they asked her what was happening in the BB house all she coul tell them was that they were all asleep. Poor Helen looked quite lonely with no one to interact with but she still put on a brave smile.

Meanwhile other presenters were interviewing the families and friends of both Alex and Spencer.

As I said before i am not a happy bunny. They wasted her interviewing talent :elephant:

Yes, but she was very professional, very relaxed, and looked absolutely lovely. Even from her chair in the newsroom she sparkled like a good 'n!

I don't think she was upset about being there, just dissappointed at having nothing but sleeping housemates to comment on.

It was tactical by GMTV, because there was the old outside broadcast from Alex's home (his father has to be the archetypal eccentric! Anyone see the huge painting over the fireplace? Very Southfork!), and there was Spencer's mum, brother and ski shop boss on the sofa. No room at the inn really.

Normally the rels would have been in on Friday, but there's this football match on or something.

Apparently.

Never fear, Helen looked great!

I know cc, it's a shame. No sooner do we get that little football tournament out of the way, than something else crops up.

Maybe Sophie will be on tomorrow with Helen. You never know.

Helen might be manning the pledge phones.

I missed the very beginning but Helen on GMTV this morning appeared as a guest with a BB1 contestant and Adele.

As far as I could make out Helen was introduced as an ex BB2 contestant and was not there in the capacity of the BB3 corespondent as we were led to believe she was.

I think it was nice to see the three of them together on the sofa. Helen still glowed and sparkled in their midst, especially when Darren mentioned the fact that PJ wasn't as good as 'Clarkey'.

HOWEVER

I do think there is an undercurrent to make the previous years contestants disposable now. (With the exception of Brian of course).

Good grief, that woman on BBLB tonight even said Jade should be given a slot on This Morning to talk 'Jadeisms!'

If that sort of attitude is the norm, I think Helen will be cast aside. A pity because she is just being herself, and she always will be.

I hope Helen won't disappear. No matter how negative people are about past BB housemates, you can see everyone who comes in contact with her actually likes Helen.

She IS Warm!:hello:

I think she will be OK, whatever!

bananarama
11-07-2002, 08:34 PM
I think Brian is as disposable as the rest. He started his TV appearances later......If that little number he is doing now on a Saturday.goes!!! then Brian will go the same way as Helen.

It's a shame but there are so many ex uni grads wanting to make a media name for themselves. So working class wannabies will get their noses pushed out. Snobbery will always rule the roost
:elephant:

Ig
11-07-2002, 10:34 PM
Sorry to disappoint you bananarama, but Brian's contract with SM:tv live ("little number"??? most popular kids TV show and the CITV flagship!!!) has just been renewed for a further year.... and counting ... He is still in demand for magazine interviews (this week's Smash Hits  had to buy it!) and personal/guest appearances and was on MTV tonight presenting an award at the Dancestar awards. I understand that there are also a number of things in the pipeline ... or is that what you meant by "disposable"??!!

Narinder has landed herself a dating gameshow, albeit on a minor sattellite channel, Bubble is still working on Chelsea TV and Josh and Stuart are apparently doing a lot of radio work. ( I always said Stu had the perfect face for radio!)

Although Helen seems to have been shunted aside from her position as a BB pundit, I agree with ROB, it would be a shame to see her disappear from our screens altogether.:bawling: Although I was never that big a fan, BB3 has made me miss her dreadfully! And how! The powers-that-be in the TV world obviously still think she has a wide appeal, otherwise she would not be asked to appear on GMTV as a pundit, guest presenter, or anything else!

I could be wrong here, but doesnt British TV have a tradition of taking "working class wannabees" to their hearts and turning them into stars? A huge number of TV presenters/actors these days are from working class backgrounds, Carol Vorderman, Cilla Black, Sean Bean, Ioan Gruffydd, Jayne MacDonald (the Cruise, hugely successful album, and a presenting career to follow!) .. too many spring to mind to list!!! Maybe snobbery doesnt rule the roost QUITE as much as you think!!:hello:

Hi Ig

I like Brian so I am not disappointed that Brians TV appearances are safe for the foreseable future. I am though quite cynical about the industry because many times I have heard news presenters make comments about BB in general which clearly indicates that some of them believe BB is beneath them to have to report on. Hence my snobbery comment.

My inevitabe conclusion would be that some would not want an ex BB contestant to be more popular than they.

In the days of working class artists like Cilla Black qualification were not in those days as critical as they are today for the industry to accept new wannabies that will be allowed to last longer than a nine days wonder.

Quite simply. If a presenters job were available and there are two people with the right type of personality and capability. One of them had high qualifications and the other did not then I think I know which one would have to bite the dust.
:spin2:

I agree with that part, although wanting to be more popular than a BB contestant does not necessarily mean that they WILL be! The prejudice against BB contestants is the reason Brian's agents have been keen to distance him from BB and they have done an excellent job in managing his career so far. I think the scrum of agents and TV companies wanting to hire him after his win shows that there's no danger of him being passed over for someone with "qualifications"!

I believe that talent is the important thing when it comes to TV presenting, that and getting a foot in the door. As someone who has friends with media qualifications, I can tell you that getting that all-important break is the most difficult thing. Once you have it, experience and ability will carry you through. Brian has the ability, and the excellent way he has adapted to his role as a presenter will ensure he remains in demand and capitalises on his previous fame, as well as his current success.

Helen (the actual subject of this thread - excuse me! can't help waffling when it comes to Brian!) has also proved herself, although in a smaller capacity, and hopefully will have further TV jobs in the future.

At the end of the day public opinion counts for a hell of a lot, and I can't bring myself to be pessimistic about any of last year's housemates ... I liked them all too much to think they'll disappear without trace. :bawling: Calling them "disposable" is a bit too dismissive for my liking. :nono: After all, a few of the BB1 housemates are still doing well! (bafflingly in some cases!)

At last a proper appearance by Helen as a BB corespondent. She was glowing as usual and stood her ground on her oppinion of the changes to this years BB. There was a friendlt talk about the changes this year along with someone I think it from the "Heat" mag. Can't do a replay at the moment!!

He liked the changes but she did not. I think she said words to the effect that her big toe feels sorry for Tim. He is not to bad really. You then have to read her body language. Helen was well on form for I am pleased to say.:bouncy::bouncy:

Romantic Old Bird
15-07-2002, 07:05 PM
The chap from Heat was none other than the legendary mark Frith, who was very nice with Helen, despite the fact he could hardly get a word in!

She really wanted to get a word in about not being like jade, and perhaps Jade trying to be like her.

When Mark Frith tried to tactfully point out that there might be a few similarities, she was having none of it!

He said Helen was a lot sweeter and that there would NEVER be another Helen Adams!

Helen said something along the lines of:

'Paul says I am MUCH nicer than Jade, and that I am really nice, and (sorry to people from London out there) I have a lovely Welsh accent!'

She was in her element, despite the fact her old side kick from 'Lorraine' - Ben - has been promoted to the sofa until September!

She is a sweet lass, but was struggling hard to empathise with Tim!

I just Helen was on a programme that was on at a more reasonable hour. I can never manage to see her. How about someone gives her a job of being a weather girl or something so we could see her everyday, at a time everyone would be watching. Lovely to see our Helen again. She brightens up the screen whenever she is on. She says what she thinks and obviously thats not a lot of this year's show. Love how she says what she thinks and if Paul says she's not like Jade then thats good enough for her end of story. By the way do you think the necklace and bracelet shes worn on every show she's been on since her birthday were presents from Paul?

Romantic Old Bird
16-07-2002, 08:02 AM
I am sure they were. They appeared on her birthday when she siad she'd opened lots of presents from Paul, hanging from balloons spelling out Happy Birthday. They haven't been off since!

Did you see how Mark Frith looked up to heaven and laughed everytime she mentioned Paul? And how Kate answered when she said she wanted to talk now (and proceeded to rattle on about what Paul thought). She said, 'I couldn't stop you Helen!'
Great stuff.

Funnily enough, they had this Crocodile Hunter chap on this morning, and he's just like a male version of Helen in the motor mouth department! Not that I imagine Helen is regularly fighting off the advances of a wild animal....................:shocked::shock ed:

Do you think they are likely to have Helen on GMTV with PJ this week, after all she was on with Adele. I would love to see it, especially if he tried to charm her. She would sure put him in his place.

Bye the way does anyone else think it is kinda sweet how in nearly every appearance she has to mention Paul in some way and how her face lights up each time she says his name. Aint love grand. It was the same when Paul did his Virgin Radio interview - he just had to make sure everyone knew that his Helen was not like Jade. What a pair. I'd love to see them on TV together - imagine them doing a Richard and Judy type programme. The mind boggles.

I can't understand what this obsession with Helen and Paul is, anyone tell me?

bananarama
18-07-2002, 06:57 PM
Ok. Some people get drawn into "Soap operas" and get "concerned" if that is the right word about what happens to the characters. Such people enjoy this remote experience as we all do when we enjoy a good film.

Now with regard to Paul and Helen. They were part of a live "soap opera" This time the story was real. The sentimentalists amongst us wished them well and having watched them intimately for several weeks no doubt feel we know them and more importantly feel for them.

It is no mystery if you like a love story "And helen and Pauls was one of the sweetest about two very nice people" then you remain interested, even concerned about what becomes of them.:xyxwave:

For those of us who love a good slushy romantic film, last year we had nine weeks of a fantastic love story watching H and P's feelings for each other grow day by day. We (or at least I know I did) felt they were part of the family and feel really pleased that despite all the pressure and media attention they have survived. Its lovely to have a happy ending. Sorry the only excuse I can have for my obsession is that I am a born romantic - nothing wrong with that as far as I am concerned.

Only problem I had last year was lack of sleep. I was absolutely glued to the box.:::love:

then he said that helen had made a good career in the media and asked about paul clarke, helen said that he was shy, then she said he isnt shy and that hes happy to just be in the background and that he had spent years at college and uni and didnt want to throw it all away by chancing it in the media.she said they were very happy now that they r not "too showbiz", but then she said "u can never be 2 showbiz!!"
