I was in Turkey for holiday and I heard a lot of non-English songs played in bars/hotels and I was wondering if you like them. I dont mind them and would listen to them one in a while (My fave song at the moment is in Turkish).

For example take Céline Dion (French) or Enrique Iglesias (Spanish). They have both done albums in their own language as well as English. Would you as a English fan listen to one of their albums in there own language?

What do you think?

Absolutely love it. I own loads and some of the best music I have is that sung in a different language. Obviously there will be rubbish stuff just like English music, but get past the crud and there is some amazing stuff out there.

:hello::hello::hello:

Being an absolute Japan fangirl, I love J-Pop and J-Rock. <3 My favourite artists are Miyavi, An(tic) Cafe, Cheico Kawabe, Aya Hirano (:love::love::love:) Morning Musume and Buono!. :]

If I like the song then yes. For instance I have some stuff by Talvin Singh. I can't understand half of the lyrics by The Cocteau Twins. Elizabeth Fraser sings in her own made up language.

Ofra Haza had a couple of hits over here but was massive in Israel. 38 albums I think. Im Nin Alu was her biggest hit over here.

This was mainly due to Eric B and Rakim's 87 hit, Paid In Full Coldcut Remix, that sampled Im Nin Alu.

She then was on Goth rockers Sisters Of Mercy's Temple Of Love '92. I don't know if this was a sample or recorded for the track but she is in the video and was on Top of the Pops with them.

Finaly she was sampled on Prodigy, Smack my Bitch up.in 97.

She died in 2000 aged 42 from the bad AIDS.

Oh, and the 12" version of "Pump up the volume" by Marrs includes a sample of Ofra Haza's "Im Nin'Alu" also.

I've got some french, german, japanese and spanish music in my library. Language doesn't really matter :\

Did it? I knew it had Pump up the Volume by Eric B and Rakim. But them, it had just about every sample in the world in it. Even stuff that had not been recorded yet.

I don't have foreign music unless it's an artist I already like who puts a different language song on their album. For me,I've always hated languages,I was always crap at them. And a joy of music for me is to understand the song and singalong as well. So I don't really want to mix the two.

It's a number of things for me. Firstly, I love the music. I love a lot of instrumental pieces from different genres. I also love beautiful and meaningful lyrics. Sometimes though it can be because I like someones voice and that is why I like the song. Even though I might not be able to understand it. :tongue:

I don't mind Foreign music but since I can't understand the lyrics I never like it as much as english music. I do like catchy Foreign music though. I like one artist called Utada Hikaru but I've not heard many of her japanese songs.
