...said that there had been a lot of racist remarks made in the house that were edited out of the shows. Yet she also said on BBLB this morning that she had hardly had a chance to see any of the shows since she came out, and hadn't seen any of the backdated tapes.
BB have also denied that there has been any editing.

So, one question: Is she lying?
Another question: Why?

She's perceiving something to be racist in her eyes but not in many others.

The race card is pulled out to often as far as im concerned, if its malicious then yeah it shouldnt go unpunishished but if its just something which is a joke or not intended to hurt people should just leave it.

I don't personally think that anything in the house has been racist and Hass your right, why bring it up now that she is out when she had all the time in the world to mention it whilst she was in there?!?! People on the outside have probably mentioned it to her and she has just gone along with it agreeing :bored:

I have no time for the press. If venessa has spoken of such then it is simply a matter of personal economics.
The press want a story "any story will do". and Vanessa wants some dosh out of this experience...Don't blame her. Those daft enough to buy newspapers deserve to be ripped off. Good luck to her and the press and may they make as much money as possible from the gullable that buy the trash......

if they were no racist remarks why was saskia &maxwell questioned by davina ?

Ruth
18-07-2005, 04:46 PM
I think Davina asked Saskia and Maxwell because the press (them again:rolleyes:) had made out that because their group was all white and the other group wasn't, that there was a racist divide; I personally don't think the divide was racist at all. I think Saskia and to a lesser extent Maxwell were the cause of the divide, but it was not due to skin colour. Davina probably just wanted to clarify that when she asked Saskia and Maxwell - you could even say that she wanted to give them their opportunity to state that they weren't racist.

the divide wasn't about the colour but maxwell was to some extent

I don't think Vanessa is lying. At the height of Team Smug's arrogance a lot of nasty things were said by Craig, Anthony, Maxwell and Saskia. The late night feed constantly had to cut the sound when they were bitching about Team Diva. Endemol even admitted the new housemates were brought in early to stop the racial divide. Funny how you lot have poor memories. Here is an extract of what was published in the guardian this year:

Of the nine remaining housemates last week, five were Asian or black, including Kemal, a gay, cross-dressing Muslim, and Makosi, an articulate black Zimbabwean. But the driving force behind the racial divide has been the activities of the remaining white contestants: Maxwell, an Essex wideboy, Saskia, a Footballers' Wives wannabe, and their allies, Craig and Anthony.

The tension had been simmering for several days, but erupted on Monday after Makosi (for game-related reasons) appeared to have stolen the house's ration of alcohol, 10 cans of cheap cider. Deprived of their booze - a constant source of worry - Saskia and Maxwell unleashed a torrent of abuse that skated close to outright racism and must have had Channel 4 management in a cold sweat.

Saskia - full name Saskia Howard-Clarke - raged at Makosi: "You lot, you've always got a chip on your shoulder." She continued her tirade: "You are a fake ... You wear a ****ing wig on your head," referring to Makosi's afro.

The white contestants persisted in disparaging the other housemates, with Craig objecting that Makosi was "not even British", describing the black contestants as "hyenas" and adding: "They're not ****ing right in the head." Saskia agreed, saying: "They get away with murder in this house."

The division became a physical one, with the four whites entrenched in a separate room in the house, maintaining a hostile front against the other five. Their spirits briefly rose when the organisers announced that new housemates were about to enter. But when he heard the new housemates' names (Eugene, Orlaith and Kinga) Maxwell worried that they "don't sound English. I wonder where they're from?". Crawley, Belfast and London, in fact.

Luckily for Channel 4 - and national harmony - Saskia or Maxwell will have been evicted last night, easing tensions. But the dangers were there from the start when the makers decided to include Saskia despite her declaring in her audition: "I don't like people coming into the country. I cannot generalise, but they all want to kill us, bomb us and they call us names." This was too much for The Sun, which editorialised this week that Saskia's views "sound very National Front to us".

Big Brother has always had ethnic-minority contestants, but the high proportion this year seems to have made racial divisions more pointed. In previous series black contestants have tended to lose out in voting against white rivals. This year, however, the public has chosen to evict white contestants, suggesting the audience is less concerned about race than a clique of the contestants.

Wow, I have not seen that article before - I don't really read the press about Big Brother, other than articles posted on this site. Saskia's comments are disgraceful, when she says:

"I don't like people coming into the country. I cannot generalise, but they all want to kill us, bomb us and they call us names"

Also, she says she doesn't want to generalise, but then goes on to do exactly that ("I cannot generalise, but they all...")

:bored::bored::bored::bored:

I must admit, I tend to watch the highlights more than the live feed, so maybe I have missed some stuff, that has been edited out of the highlights.

Vanessa may have mentioned it while she was in the house. If she is claiming that C4 edited out a lot of racist remarks, then they could just as easily have edited out her talking about it.

There are racists everywhere from all different backgrounds & cultures, and all different colours. IF any racist remarks were made in the house by ANY of the HMs then I do think that BB should have issued a formal warning. The problem is that a lot of the time innocent remarks are blown up out of all proportion and classed as racist, when in fact a lot of the time, they are not.

I refer to the Guardian article and I quote : "You are a fake ... You wear a ****ing wig on your head," referring to Makosi's afro.

Correct me if I am wrong - Makosi has admitted that her hair is a wig right?

If so, then it wasn't attacking her afro. It was attacking her choice to wear a false hairpiece. The press have chosen to blow it up and sensationalise it.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying Saskia or Maxwell, or any of the others are NOT racist, because I don't know if they are or are not. I am just pointing out that some things get misconstrued all in the name of selling papers/magazines etc.

Ruth
18-07-2005, 09:12 PM
I agree, I did not take the comment about the wig as racist, the same insult could have been made towards someone of any ethnic origin. However, her statements about immigrants I find extremely distasteful, to say the least.

lily.
18-07-2005, 09:17 PM
Yeah, I would agree with that.. if she actually said that, then that was very narrow minded.

18-07-2005, 09:42 PM
The original article actually stated that most of the 'racial' comments that were supposedly edited out came from team Diva. Apparently only Maxwells group singing 'Eng-er-land, En-ger-land, En-ger-land" was edited out on their part, with the bizarre reasoning that it happened soon after the London bombings (so?).
But on the part of team diva, a lot of their conversations would turn to racial observations within the house.

But it's funny how everyone assumes it all comes from the white group, isn't it?

"Saskia's comments are disgraceful, when she says:

"I don't like people coming into the country. I cannot generalise, but they all want to kill us, bomb us and they call us names"

The evidence to support this statement is increasing all the time. Unlike saskia, I can and will generalise. The only thing she got wrong is that some of them were actually born here, and didn't come into the country at all, which is of course far worse. We face interesting times, and a lot of people are going to have to wake up and smell the coffee.
The truth is not politically correct, but the truth it remains.

Ruth

Are you seriously saying that ALL the people who come into this country want to kill us and bomb us, and call us names? Just checking, because she did say "they all" and you said that she only got one thing wrong, which is that some of "them" were born here. Saskia is not only proving herself to be racist, she is also proving herself to be uninformed. Ask yourself how many immigrants we have in this country (and by the way, if they are born here, they are British), and how many of them really want to bomb us and kill us. It is a very small minority, which in no way excuses their atrocious acts.

I have sent you a U2U, as this thread has taken an unpleasant turn, and I don't think this forum is the place to discuss this.

This discussion is leaving a nasty taste in my mouth.
