Sad news really! Was such a great year, people missed out.

Recently it does seem like viewers want to see more comedy type shows. I reckon the reality theme will die out for a while soon, then re-appear in the next 20years in another form.

That's not true.

The ratings started off about 1.5 million and creeped up to 2.25 million eventually.

In the past it starts off at more than double that and increases over time to the finale.

The reason for the demise is in the hands of change in producers at BB5.

Led to the death of BB.

I love reality TV, its one of my favourtie types of show.

Ch4 are just so stupid, they left their show to die this year,
plenty of ways to have rescued it, they didnt bother.
And it was a brilliant series, they should have advertised more,
HMs with such big characters like Freddie, Noirin, Marcus and Bea,
never seen a series as big in terms of HMs as this year.

CH4 shot themselves in the foot failing to advertise their own shows on their own channels or even upon other channels while airing advertisments for sky etc on all their own channels. Sort of counter productive that. The advertisement campaign leading up to the launch was abysmal.

I think its unfail to blame Big Brother on C4 dismal ratings, to be hon est do you think they would have been any better if they had shown skins/inbetweeners repeats? NO, C4 need to wake up and realise people want ORIGINAL Shows like Derren Brown, That new show Alone in The Wild. These are the shows that people are interested in. Send BB off with a bang in a swan song to the show, then let it die a natural death rather than squeezing the last drops off blood from a damaged corpse.

This is SUCH a myth and to be frank, it really really pisses me off when people keep saying this.

The LF was scrapped for a reason. It wasn't working and pulling in the ratings. 2008's series got the lowest final figures in the history of BB until 2009. So the LF didn't make a huge difference. It still had poor ratings.

When will people wake up and get rid of this LF myth. It's a bloody myth. Only the hardcore fans will stick and watch LF of people talking shite and picking their ass. They are looking to please more than just the 'hardcore' fans of BB.

They are looking for ratings, that is why it's ending because it's not getting them, LF or no LF. The ratings aren't there to substain it for a great amount of time.

Somebody compared Channel 4 to UPN in America after they cancelled star trek enterprise and the network itself got cancelled 6 months later because nobody was interested anymore.
I hope this happens to cahnnel 4 after they realise what they have just given up.

They said new dramas and new comedies were going to be comissioned right? Surley that won't be enough to fill half the amount of space.

I think the programme did change after BB4. Apparently they got some new staff in after that. During the renewal, the all girls house didn't work considering the majority of viewers are female wanting to look at some totty.

I just don't have to walk down the street and see stabbings, muggings, rape - that is not my reality. At a guess... I would say it is not the reality for a vast vast majority of the country. I would say, most people will go through life never having experiences rape or even violence or murder/stabbings to themselves or others.

Reality is basically what you do from day to day and from day to day - I don't come across those things unless I hear it on the news.

Big Brother can be produced for a fraction of the cost it takes to rpoduce a live action drama or action series that delivers Big Brother ratings ONCE a week.

It's why the show has been going so long. It's why a lot of people at Channel 4 and their advertisers got filthy rich off it.
