Give some more information, where you at, college? And what subjects did you take?

Fair enough.

And as I'm younger than you I aint in the best position to comment, so some of the older lot will be able to give you a better answer.

I would recommend just trying again, its clearly something close to your heart. Keep trying until you get it.

Oh Laura I'm so sorry :hug:Like Fom said you can always try again. Or if you don't want to do it is there any other proffesions you're interested in that could use the qualifications you've attained so far?

Was it a degree in nursing? I remember my step cousin failed her first year of her nursing degree and then she decided to go to a different university to do nursing but not in degree level in a higher diploma level.

So the advice I can think of is if you still want to be a nurse you could opt for the higher national diploma level. I think this may be easier than the degree level but I suppose talk to careers advisors first!

I agree with Fom, if your heart is set on nursing, keep trying :)

There are other ways into nursing, e.g if you do Health & Social Care not at degree level rather than nursing, and then go to work in an old peoples home, after a while you'll have enough experience to go on to do nursing. Slightly more lengthy but if you've got no other options you could try that. Or you could always do the year again (whether at the same uni or not) but if you can't start again until next year then you might as well get some work experience over the next year.

Or you could always look into getting an apprenticeship in nursing.

My mum also failed her first year but she is now a great nurse. A lot of people fail the first year because it's rather tough and they generally pass the repeat year.

You're still young. Repeat the year and stay in Nursing. It might seem like a big deal now but trust me, you'll be ok. Just stick with it.

Thanks guys! Was talking to my dad for about forever there. I'm going to appeal on grounds of family **** this year and good attendance and the fact that I passed all my other exams. If that doesn't work, well I'll figure it out later

What stupid advice. Why not?

Just appeal and if that doesn't work, i'd try again, take none of r2-d2's nonsense advice.

So I had a meeting with my dad and my personal tutor today and told him all the crap that has happened this year. He said I had a pretty good chance of appeal. Best case screaniro is that I have to repeat the subject I failed in October, probably have to do yet another assignment! And if I pass that I can just go straight to 2nd year so I'm really really hoping thats what happens! I CANNOT cope with anything else.

That's good Laura!! Seriously the best of luck to you, I think you'd make an incredible nurse, I really hope you get into 2nd year! x

Keep at it Laura. You have great grounds of appeal and I am sure it'll work out for you. Don't get disillusioned - Uni has a good way of doing that to you but you'll find your passion for the subject comes back soon enough and will get you through!! x

Princess
24-09-2009, 05:28 PM
NOT HAPPY! They decided that I should go 'off books',repeat the subject I failed and do 2nd year in a year. So basically I'm wasting a ****ing year of my life on 5 percent! ARGH

Lauren
24-09-2009, 05:40 PM
Can you not appeal their decision? It may require meeting a board of people, but if you explain that you're very able to do the failed module along with 2nd year they may rethink!

Princess
24-09-2009, 05:52 PM
I can appeal again, with a high appeal but I don't know it'd do much good. I don't really remember much of what they asked me today because I was so stressed.

Lauren
24-09-2009, 05:58 PM
I think it's worth a go Laura. You don't want to regret not appealing higher, and always wondering what would've been if you appealed. See how far it gets you, and THEN consider a next step xxx

Yeah I'll see how it goes,I think my dad is ringing about it tomorrow. Thanks Loz xx
