I'm flying through my books at the moment! I usually get them at birthday/Christmases/when I'm in Waterstones and I can't help myself.
I usually read chick-lit cos I love reading to escape somewhere else and well I love escaping to somewhere where everything ends happily ever after. I like celeb autobiographies as well,my fav being Gary Barlow's.
Fav books ever would include the following
All Sophie Kinsella's books
The Princess Diaries Series-Meg Cabot
The Guy Next Door-Meg Cabot(<3)
Before I Die-Jenny Downham
A Hopeless Romantic-Harriet Evans
Pillow Talk-Freya North
Sisterhood of Travelling Pants Series-Ann Brashares
Harry Potter Series-JK Rowling
All of Dorothy Koomson's books
All of Kate Jacob's books
Second Chance-Jane Green
An Offer You Can't Refuse-Jill Mansell(I need to buy more of her books)
The Time Traveler's Wife-Audrey Niffenegger
The Memory Keeper's Daughther-Kim Edwards
31 Dream Street-Lisa Jewell
There is more but I'd be here all night!

Wouldn't be a fan of James Patterson's really.
Prefer people like John Connolly, Michael Connelly, Harlan Coben and Ian Rankin. Really love the old classic crimewriters too but they'd be my fav outta the newer ones. Oh, and of course PD James(beautiful writer) and Minette Walters are obviously wonderful. Depends what mood I'm in but really love the thrasy/dirty/ghostly quality of the first few I mentioned.
Sorry, could go on and on about crime and mystery novels.... when you had a mother reading them all the time you're bound to pick the habit up yourself! They're just great fun to read.

I generally read the papers and publications. Usually read scientific studies and new reports.
Now and again I'll read a short story. LOL
