I've been a fan since i heard their first album Youth and young Manhood a few years back they mixed the Strokes and Creendence clearwater revival to great effect plus those beards and long hair made them along with Caleb's voice made them sound like a long lost 70's band. Every track perfect from " wasted Time" and "California waiting" still the second best album they've done.
The Second album aha Shake Heartbreak saw them add an 80's sound of The cure and The cars to their Mix of Boogie. For me, its still their Greatest album to date with "The Bucket","King of the Rodeo","Milk" and "Four kicks" some of the best songs they've written. it Garnered huge praise and a huge fanbase including RADIOHEAD,BOB DYLAN,PEARL JAM and U.2. The Guys had the world taking notice.
Third Album BECAUSE OF THE TIMES saw a more unCommercial sound and a new Look come to the band which for me i saw as a sellout but the songs and new sound won me over songs such as U.2-ish lead off single "ON Call" also great tracks as The Pixies Rip "Charmer" and Great tracks such as "Knocked up","FANS" and "My Party" instead of dividing their crowd it made them even bigger been their First number 1 album in the uk. I like the album myself but still it lacks the swagger and 70's feel of their first two albums for me.
Onto Their Fourth and most commercially succesful album to date with "Only By The Night",yes i know its made them what they wanted to be the biggest band around in the UK anyway but for me it lacks the Swagger and coolness of the last three Albums even though "SEX on Fire" and "CRawl" are the best things they've done it smacks of sell out and its their worse album with them sounding like a wanna be U.2 and "use somebody" is the worse case of Sell out on the Album a soppy ballad you can imagine Leon Lewis singing it soon enough or someone on the X factor:bored:
From a swaggering rock band to sell out company rockers
anyway write up what you feel of the Guys and their albums?
I used to love the 80's, group of lads jamming in a flat waking there mothers up vibe in the second album.
Now I rate them along with the Script, Nickelback and every other generic rock band out their. Not even interesting enough to be bad. Wholly unremarkable.

i love their new album best this year so far and has the best thing they've done so far in Cornerstone
i just hate bands who go from cool rock to sell out write a ballad for the chavs and rake in the millions kind of rock

yeah they played a set of new songs a few weeks before the new album was released very brave indeed. But at reading they were cited in a few mags as the best band in the new world. and they've got a great set now mixing new songs with old ones and have been doing great in Amercia.

i've seen some of their sets from Amercia and they are playing brillantly. the new album takes a few good listens before it hits you and when it does its a great change of pace. At leeds, they were playing to a festival crowd not a AM's crowd

Use Somebody is one of my fave songs of the year, so i would say they have got better. I dont like those kind of groups normally.
King Gizzard

Worse, the first 2 albums are brilliant. I admit them being liked by everyone has made me not like them as much..cause there songs are always on TV and radio and it makes me get tired of them

they are pandering to the pop fans or fans who buy Snow patrol records like yourself even you admit you don't listen to these bands

Prefer their old stuff, the new album is so ridiculously overplayed and overrated.

I like their new stuff as much as their older albums, it's a different sound and I like how they are tweaking their music with each album. They never stay exactly the same. Their newest albm has one of my favourite tracks by them if I'm honest (Closer). Calling them a 'chav' band is completely wrong as well, chavs don't like bands they like basshunter and robbing old ladies.
Finally the only thing that annoys me about this thread is the use of 'sell out'. Now i'm a snob when it comes to music but i can't stand the use of that phrase. It's a phrase used by wannabe-cool indie kids who think liking a band nobody else knows or likes makes them cool.

Sorry Dezzy they have sold out
Remix albums with Justin timberlake, cut their hair and change their clothes when they got their first number one album and horrible sappy ballads. i like acts who don't change their style so they can sell millions of records and the kings of leon have been the worse along with Razorlight in the last few years to sell out.
i think your mad thinking their new sound is anywhere near the perfection of their first three albums but you got your own taste in musioc but for me its a awful bon jovi type record

Music has to evolve though.
You can't keep making the same style of music for years, and years. People get bored.
LOADS of long-running bands have altered their sound.
Sure, there's still something recognizable that makes them unique, but it has to develop.

There first three albums are great and showed real character and balls in their music. This last one is just dull and generic. Sad really. I mean it's good, but it's not original or innovative.

they had a Creendence clearwater revival feel to them which i liked
then they got the haircut and had a shave while listening too much U.2 and Bon jovi and came out sell outs

I'd heard them before they were mainstream but I didn't like them.
And with the whole mainstream thing, I can't really think of a band that's too similar to them so they haven't technically 'fitted in with the mainstream' because they're not a clone of another band really.
