X Factor Jamie Archer's dad is fighting for life after kidney failure

Star rushes from studio as he fights for his life

Jamie Archer's dad is fighting for his life after suffering kidney failure.

Last night more than 12million fans watched as 34-year-old Jamie belted out Primal Scream on the rock-themed week.

But the show-stopping performance masked the star's pain over his dad's illness.

William Archer - who split from Jamie's mum Jeanne in 1980 - is being treated in London for renal failure.

The 70-year-old rice farmer moved to his native Guyana in South America after his divorce - but flew back to the UK earlier this year for treatment.

Jamie, from Putney, South West London, has been allowed to leave the X Factor house in Golders Green, North London, to visit his dad and keeps in regular phone contact with him.

A source said: "William is very poorly but he's being monitored closely. His kidneys are being supported by medication but because they are not working properly on their own, they are putting pressure on his organs.

"Everyone is hoping for the best and Jamie is praying he will come through this. He's very close to his dad, and William is incredibly proud of his son.

"The prospect of seeing Jamie singing on TV every week is the best medicine he can get."

Jamie Archer has become the latest contestant to be hit by the virus sweeping The X Factor House.

The 34-year-old has lost his voice and is battling to be fit for Saturday’s live show.

Jamie has been advised to save his voice and not to speak until then.

Lloyd Daniels, Olly Murs and twins John and Edward have all been struck down by the bug.

Jamie Archer, aka Jamie Afro, has big plans since leaving The X Factor – and he told stv.tv what fans can expect from his debut album.

Speaking about the record, which he hopes to release next year, he told us that the album will be a mix of rock, blended in with other musical genres.

“I do love rock, but I do love other things as well, like dance music, I love my house music. Rock is basically what I do, but I like to mess it up with a few other flavours and things like that.

Jamie added: “It’s going to be rock essentially, but there’s going to be a bit of cheekiness here and there.”

As well as the album, the rocker has lots of other plans for the next few months, which look set to be extremely busy for the former contestant.

He said: “At the moment I’m doing a tour around the country, all sorts of places…I’m doing this tour then I’m dong The X Factor tour next year, I think that starts in February, which is going to be mental. And it’s getting bigger, and bigger, and bigger, and it’s sold out all over the country and they keep adding dates. So obviously I have to do that.

“Then after that it’s the album and then I want to go out and tour that. So I’m going to be busy for a very long time.”
