View Full Version : Kevin Davies

After watching him at the weekend I really can't understand why Kevin Davies hasn't been given a shot at international level. Ok, he's not pretty but he gives defenders an awful time of it and is very good at holding the ball up and bringing others into play. I'd have him ahead of Crouch and Heskey as an attacking option for England at this stage.
Ok, Rooney is there but who gets the other three spots?

Defoe
Crouch
Heskey
heskey
owen
defoe
crouch
cole
agbonlahor
it's between these, nobody else has a chance

But he's always said he'll only choose the players who are performing regularly and he was at the Bolton-Spurs game and there was only one striker in that match.
I'd give him a go in the friendlies anyway because he's far more effective than Heskey at that type of play, and I doubt theres many defenders in the premiership who enjoy playing against him.
He'll take Rooney and Defoe defo and then I'm not sure about the other two..... and don't forget if he decides to bring Beckham he'll have to take Walcott as a striker.

good morning Setanta:wavey:
he won't choose Davies simply as he's not as good as the others mentioned

But that's my whole point- he's better at a certain type of physical game than Heskey and Crouch. He offers something different. Seriously, he was immense against Spurs and I'd say if you asked every centre back in the country who they hate facing, his name would be right up there alongside Drogba and Carew. You need somebody like that in your team and his fitness has never been in question.... plays week in, week out and is an awkward fella to compete against.
heskey and rooney is working well, england have won every qualifing game, why change something thats working well?

Because the manager has openly said on many occassions that he'll only consider the ones who are playing regularly and at the level he requires.... Davies is doing this and more. Capello was at that match and I can't see him being anything other than impressed by him. I think he should give him a go in the warm up games if he continues playing this well.

you have one too many midfielders and only 7 defenders there.
james milner can play full back if needed also garreth barry could play at the back if needed

That's true and I suppose Lescott has done it before. Still leaves you a bit open though and at international level it could be dangerous. I personally wouldn't bring Crouch or Heskey either.... like I said, I'd give Davies or Bent a go before the tournament to see how they do.

I wouldn't even consider bringing Wes Brown and Michael Carrick is one of the most overrated players in the country, in my opinion.
Wes brown is Quality
the Unsung hero for man utd i rate him highly
Carrick does have his days i woudn't have him in the starting 11 though

Carrick rarely does it against the big boys, which is always a sign for me that a player isn't international class and Brown is injury prone and has a tendency to make silly errors, especially when he's just back in. More consistent players out there who've played far more games. Browns been out for ages and I don't see any sign of him coming back into the United set up.

If Crouch and Defoe were injured i would call him up.
Think about him last season he was best player in his team and scoring regularly.
Much better player than heskey.

He's a better finisher and all round player than Heskey. Really can't understand why he hasn't been given a chance.

Said this last season when he was on great form, after scoring 10 goals in the premiership, as if heskey played that many games he would score about 4.
My dad felt the opposite said hesnot good enough and heskey is much better, he praises heskey to the heavens he rates him above crouch to..
Ridiculous.

I honestly think the reason for his snubbing is because of the club he's with, which is ridiculous really. They'd be relegated without him. He's going to get better and better this season cuz their new signings look tasty and they'll work well with him.

Yeah i think if he moved to someone like everton or fulham like 2 seasons ago he would have got a call up possibly.
Now with people like walcott and agbonlahor coming through doubt he will ever get a chance.
setanta
06-10-2009, 12:17 PM
But he's more savvy than Agbonlahor. He'll rough teams up. I'd defo take Rooney and Defoe and then one out of Bent/Agbonlahor and one out of Crouch/Heskey/Davies. Walcott can go as a midfielder I suppose.

Its a hard choice really.
Very hard lol.

See if he selects Walcott as a midfielder it probably means Beckham is out the door. Do you want Beckham to go?

06-10-2009, 12:34 PM
No id of thought he'd take walcott and beckham...
setanta
06-10-2009, 12:38 PM
I just don't think he has the space for both unless he takes Walcott as a striker. It's really dodgy for Beckham at this stage. I suppose he could take him as a central midfielder but it's risky.
30stone
06-10-2009, 12:49 PM
I think he can take both, as they are interchangable players.
setanta
06-10-2009, 12:54 PM
I don't think he can afford to really and Lennon is in great form.
30stone
06-10-2009, 12:56 PM
I think walcott will be his first choice if hes fit to play.
So it could be between lennon and becks.
setanta
06-10-2009, 12:59 PM
I'd like to see Beckham there but I'm not sure he'll be on the squad. I'd bring him because of his technical ability which could defo unlock teams in the final 20 or so.

Yeah not sure who he will pick wil have to wait and see.
He will pick Olly Murs to play upfront
